Default Lee Jones

I’ve been listening to him on FID - good interview by the way, he speaks well.

From a playing point of view, is it fair to say that he never really fulfilled his early potential?

Left Wrexham very young and effectively spent 5 years playing for Liverpool Reserves where he never really looked like breaking through as far as I can make out, with a few decent loan spells during that time. Then a moderately successful spell at Tranmere for a few years, followed by a largely disappointing spell at Barnsley before ending his professional career back at Wrexham as a squad player.

Is this a harsh assessment? Did injuries derail him from a much better career? Or did he just make an error in going to Liverpool at such an early age and then staying there too long?

Pace to burn but was never was a natural finisher. Souness took a chance on him for peanuts (£300k) but it shows what he knew.

LJ made the very best of his limited ability and you can't blame him for that. Despite playing for Liverpool, for me he'll never be held in the regard of Benno for example who is a legend here

That last minute winner at the Slops will always be one of my favourite away days. Effectively sealing promotion and relegated them. Scored the winner at Tranmere too when Shaun Holmes scored that screamer.

Mine to, always remember him racing through towards us and then not seeing the ball end up in the back of the net due to the crowd celebrations.

Tolley scores for them that day, just looked and as well as him they had Andy Holt, Sam Aiston, Dave Artel and Mark Cartwright in the team.

Equaliser away at West Ham was the highlight for me. Absolute bedlam went that went in.

Listening to the podcast looks as if Flynn and Pryce Griffiths gave him little choice about going to Liverpool.
