Default Racecourse ownership consultation

A good piece on Wrexham.Com this morning summarising the situation at The Racecourse and its ties with the Gateway project.

Key debate should be all about the Racecourse ownership. The parties involved seem happy with the new Chairmen taking over the actual ownership of The Racecourse Ground.

The question being : Is such a move a healthy one for the long term future of the club and ground here in Wrexham ?

This thread has been started in order to focus on ownership / lease / and long term future of football in Wrexham.

I don’t see how this is a bad thing at all.

We’ve been tenants at our ground for many years, whether that be on leasehold or freehold.

I can only see the positives in this, if it happens. The guarantee of it being used as our home into the next century, unless we need something bigger, gives a lot of protection.

A 100 year lease is as good as ownership in many respects. Even if the racesourse is totally rebuilt on the current footprint now, in 100 years it probably will have outlived its fit for purpose by the time the 100 years is up. People have extensions put on their mortgaged house (the house is not legally theirs until the mortgage is repaid and the legal charge removed). If its a pride thing to actually own something outright then I get that but from a business point of view it is not a requirement imho.

My guess is R and R will seek to buy the freehold of the ground from the university. I’m sure they could do that with the lease to the WST still in place?

Appreciating rather then depreciating asset?

Also, another point….

How secure is the racecourse with the current setup. The WST doesn’t seem to have a functioning setup anymore? Is this likely to change in the future?

I like the part that describes the former owners Hamilton and Gutterman as scumbags. No holding back there

Would it not be the club owning the Ground, not the Chairmen? Wouldn’t this be the best case scenario, rather than someone else owning it?
