You only have to look at National League North to see what is the play off lottery. Boston finished 11 points behind Kidder and went there and beat them and York finished 21 points behind Brackley and went there and have just beaten them

2011-12 season, we finished 17 points ahead of Luton and they beat us in the play offs.

Or you could look at the championship which looks to be set for a 3rd v 4th final.

True, but it is not quite cut and dried yet and the points difference between the play off contenders is only a maximum of 7 points which suggests to me that the teams involved are reasonably matched. We seem to be more in line with this than Nat League North I suppose, which will make the task harder if we have to play play off games but there again we may be more up for it as a result.

Kiddy were outplayed on Thursday by a Boston team who were really up for the game. Not entirely surprising as they have been poor since the West Ham game with 4 wins in the last 17 games. They have played over 50 games this season and leaving aside the first 11 there's not much backup in the squad. Russ Penn has been given another 3 years at the helm but no news if Carrington has been retained. Presumably Redmond returns to The Racecourse with no goals from a dozen or so appearances.

If as likely we are in the play offs we need to get out of this " lottery" frame of mind. I guarantee the likes of Mullin, Tozer, Palmer don't think it's a lottery.

You can find whatever data you want across the divisions for the playoffs, MK dons finished 3rd and lost their semi, Dorking well clear in 2nd in NLS and win 3-0 today to see them through to their final.

All about how good and mentally tough your players and and how your season has gone eg expecting to win automatic and dropping out late on or not.

Have never been a fan of the playoffs, to me if you are good enough to finish 2nd or 3rd whatever division you are in you are good enough to go up.
