Default Player of the Season

With the end of the season proper, usually it's about time to start thinking about the Player of the Season. For me there's three main candidates with a couple of outliers who may get some votes, all with some pros and cons.

Top Candidates

Paul Mullin: League top scorer, most goals in a season since Morrell but discipline issues earlier in the season may have cost us valuable points. Can't argue with 30 goals in all competitions with the potential for even more in the Trophy final and play-offs.

Jordan Davies: 20 goals in all competitions from midfield is a good record at any level. Could argue some games wasn't on it and was part of a much-criticised midfield in the early season.

Aaron Hayden: We all knew he was good when we signed him and took a little time to find his feet but when he did for my money became the best defender in the league.

Secondary Players

Ollie Palmer: 15 goals in half a season I think must put him as the striker with the best goals per game ratio in the league. The biggest thing against him being POTS was the fact he was only here for half a season but totally galvanized our team when he came in.

James Jones/Luke Young: Grouping them together because their seasons were quite similar. Did not start out well but got better and better as the season progressed. I don't think either will get POTS but may get a few votes here and there.

Ben Tozer: Was solid in most games and got a lot of assists from his monster throw-ins. Did have a few brain-farts throughout the season though.

Max Cleworth: Came in at a tough time and showed what he can do. Plays beyond his experience level and probably is a shoe-in for young POTS depending on whether Davies still qualifies. I would say Cleworth winning it is probably more in the spirit of the young POTS award.

For me, my vote goes to Mullin. We've been crying out for a 20+ goal a season striker and got a 30 goal one.

Got to be Jordan for me. After everything he’s been through both on and off of the pitch yet he’s always been the first to step up.

SPM is magic no doubt but lots of his goals have come from Davies through balls or crosses.

Max Cleworth has to be young player of the year without a shadow.

This’ll be it, but for me I’d go for palmer. Team and form changed with his arrival and he has a great goal/game ratio.

Mullin's goals against Stockport in the FA Trophy games were exceptional. He is a formidable and clever striker.
