We'll still need to be on top form when we go to ML, and our record there is honking so I'd be ecstatic with a draw. Wouldn't surprise me if we wallop them though.
I think our undoing will be our lack of strength in depth. We've got a bit of an injury crisis now, and the players we have as backup simply aren't good enough.

We've got L1-standard forwards, yet some of our defenders are clearly NL level at best. That's the issue. We also have zero backup in centre mid. I hope we address this in January.

Not much has changed though. Mansfield are clearly better than us and look destined for automatic, as do Stockport. I'd still be delighted with 7th place come May.

I think you're absolutely right - as with last season if your first 11 are fit and firing , you're as good , or better than anybody , but it's death that you're lacking . We had that 2 years ago when we lost out to Stockport . Last season we fixed that problem - this season we have done to an extent with in the 22 man squad restriction .... with some work still to be done in terms of recruitment up front to add real depth ( probably one quality striker in with Dalby and possibly Bickerstaff going out on Loan in January )

Also linked with Bradford and Gillingham like David Artell, it's quite a race for managers now.

Absolutely, your strength in depth will see you through I reckon. You seem pretty stacked across defence and midfield. The only issue is if Mullin gets injured again, but no club at this level could adequately replace him.

The bulk of the goals we have conceded have come from the first game and the last 4-5, we haven't seemed to have got the balance right in the last few games. Despite the results still not being too bad in the last 5, we haven't quite looked ourselves and aren't playing to our best ability. Whereas the first 6-7 matches (Sutton aside) not only were we winning, but we were winning very convincingly too. I'm hoping its simply a temporary dip in form rather than anything else.

Also (and this applies to both of us having two of the worst defensive records currently). If we are winning regularly I'm not sure we should care too much about the amount of goals we are conceding. Of course in an ideal world you want the defence to be as strong as possible, but you reach the top of the league with points, not how few you have conceded. In addition the amount of goals in our games on average makes for some exciting stuff.
I'm personally surprised you did not invest in some quality centrebacks over the summer. So far as Notts are concerned, I thought that was the missing piece of the jigsaw, as offensively, you were obviously very, very good.

Bit drastic simply dropping players is usually sufficient
