If he has a natural ability to be in the right place at the right time he would add something but its an awful lot of money to pay. Can't help feeling that we can do better.

That's not a natural ability - it's down to hard work - Lineker says this often - he used to make 50 or 60 runs every game ( that nobody noticed ) and most of the time the ball would go nowhere near him , then the one or 2 times it felt him people would say ' oh he's such a lucky player the ball just seems to fall to him all the time ' - it didn't he just worked his arse off to look like he was just lucky to be in the right place. There's some anticipation of course, but that also in part comes down to work put in on the training filed with the rest of the team so you and they know where the ball is going to go

... or as Garry Player once famously said when asked about why he was so lucky ' it's funny , the harder I work and the more I practice , the luckier I get'

I'm not convinced with Armstrong - I'm certainly not writing him off - but given he wasn't our first choice in the summer ,I'd be looking to see if we can get someone more like our first choice come January - I'd be looking to have those conversations with clubs and players now ( I'm sure we already are )

It definitely felt like we were over a barrel with the transfer fee so I was happy it didn’t go through. Felt like the episode of Sunderland till I die when they signed will grigg on deadline day.

My understanding at the time was that Harrogate were as much to blame for the deal failing as we were. Why would we therefore be expected to 'do the right thing'
Its an unacceptable price for a League 2 striker who is not playing regularly.

hes not playing regular now, he was there top gs last season,we wanted a striker, so went after him, agreed the price, then between the 2 clubs left it too late to finalize, dont no how you can say its unacceptable price if we ok d it,if it was unacceptable, we would have said no?? a lot seem to be blaming Armstrong for this, cant see why,we went after him

So Harrogate initially priced him out of our range. Wrexham look at other targets who's price then starts to approach the Armstrong fee. We go back to Harrogate meet there price on deadline day, Harrogate then say okay but we aren't going to let the deal go through until we have a replacement in place.
But its Wrexham who should do the right thing.

£500k for someone who has scored 1 goal so far this season. Bickerstaff has 2 goals.

when we agreed the deal , he had a full season left on his contract. In January , he'd effectively only have 4 months left until he became a free transfer - if we got him on on the 1st of Jan , he'd take a few weeks to get up to speed and work his way into the squad , so we'd be paying £500k for about 3 months of a player rather than the 8 months we'd have effectively been paying for had the deal gone through.

Also we're not talking about a player who's immediately going to start here .

He's no a Palmer type player & If Mullin is fully fit ( we have to hope he is ) by January , Armstrong would effectively be £500k to sit on the bench instead of Dalby - yes he may give us a long term option after Mullin , but I'd want to be very sure of that if that's what we're paying £500k for ( from what I've seen he's not anything like Mullin - he's more of a penalty box finisher )

We should offer them 50k in January as a lesson for being greedy in the summer.
