Default Mark Griffiths commentary

Have seen there are quite a few comments around social media about the commentary team on ifollow so thought I would try to gauge some opinions to see where the majority lies and if its something the club needs to look at.

Will get things started by saying the few times I have listened on ifollow I have found the commentary to be pretty poor, passion only makes up for so much.

Imagine the uproar if he was moved on. Was bad enough when Liam Roberts got told to stop filming

I was at the match so didn't obviously hear it, but if there are a number of people saying the same thing, there is obviously an issue.

If he is eating and it's right down the mic, then that is extremely poor and not at all professional.

Last night was the first game of the season I've missed last night (whether via iFollow or watching it live) - and an element of me just didn't want to listen to MG to be honest.

There's talk of him chewing gum, eating pies, and chatting shit all through the game which is par for the course but all I really want is for him to commentate on the action. Of course the Americans love it and I honestly believe he's been told to ham it up just for them.

But why does he have to eat food on air? and why at the times that he does? why can't he eat before he commentates? Its just totally unprofessional.

If he does cut this out he'd be OK so long as he sticks to the 'Young passes the ball out wide to Barnett' type commentary. When he starts talking the language of Klopp and bangs on about high presses, low blocks, passing through the lines etc he is impressing nobody.

I like Mark, he is sound.

It would be better if he did a podcast to shoot the breeze, and stuck to football during the match comms. I think the banter and forced hilarity is a bit juvenile when I'm a paying customer, I don't want to hear it personally. Stick to the game.

He seems to do a job which appeals to many people, so credit him for that. Sadly being over enthusiastic to make a game seem better than it is now de rigeur; witness Radio 5 commentators like John Murray, Connor McNamara and Vicky Sparks.

Personally he isn’t my style. I prefer the tell it as it is no nonsense style (eg Kevin Ratcliffe or Mark Lawrenson) that seems to be going out of fashion.

That's more my cup of tea as well to be honest - ex players providing the analysis.

Admittedly I'm a bit stuck in the Barry Davies era. Sometimes he'd say nothing for a few seconds instead of the 100MPH approach we have now. His silence was golden.

Commentators hamming it up is the way it is unfortunately. There was a woman commentating on an FA Cup game at the weekend that was so high pitched my dog started tilting his head. There was probably some stuff she said that only he could hear.

MOTD are guilty as charged as well. You only have to hear how Shearer, Murphy, Savage and Dublin etc all pronounce 'unbelievable".
