Unfortunately, I think they were influenced by Denis' philosophy on where money should be spent rather than Flynn's philosophy.

Everyone can make a left field decision now and again. However, the decision to bring back Keates was simply unforgivable. Still, we have to be grateful they made a mess of things. Otherwise, we wouldn't be where we are now.

Bringing Keates back may well have saved us from relegation. We were 20th in the league when he came back, and almost made the playoffs when his contract finished.
You can also argue the decisions they made, made us the prime targets for R +R.

The WST debate now is a bit like two bald blokes arguing over a comb. It's more or less over. To the future.

The decision was a joke. The football was some of the worst Iíve witnessed at the racecourse and it was steering long term supporters away from the club.

Still, Iím guessing he was happy working with the wage cap in place.

The damage was already done from the managerial farce in early 2019. Keatesí football made me want to gauge my eyes out but he came in and got us enough points to keep us away from complete Armageddon (only just).

He should have gone early in the full lockdown season but I suspect the takeover stopped that from happening. And there being no fans in the ground to voice their frustrations at the dross on show.

Had the WST made a success of it we wouldn’t be where we are today as one of the most envied clubs in world football.

We should be thankful they managed to keep the club alive while running it into the ground just enough to make it a worthwhile investment opportunity.

The perennial underperformance in comparison to our history and loyal fanbase ticked enough boxes on Humphreys spreadsheet to make us the number 1 target for R&R.

Indeed. All the stars aligned to make it possible.

The WST were always going to struggle because they could never raise enough money except through 'football fortune'. This was compounded by a 'purist ideology' where outside investment was poo-pooed, and the Board made some stupid decisions.

Thankfully, those days are behind us, but will always be part of the Wrexham Tapestry of Life. Hopefully, one day, someone will write an authoritative book on what actually happened to Wrexham AFC from 1999 to today. Would make for an interesting read.

It's time that we all put behind us the mistakes made by the WST and remember them for 2 key moments in the history of our club.
1. Without the WST there would be no Wrexham AFC
2. Without the WST's poor decision making we would probably not even been considered by R&R.
That incredible mismatch of passion and mismanagement has, perhaps more by accident than design, provide us with this remarkable platform to build on.
Time to move on.
