Rubbish - Wrexham's greatest team was in the 70s - Dai, Dixie, Mickey, Joey, Shinton, Whittle were different class. As were Cartwright, Sutton, Roberts, Gareth Davies etc

Silly remark

Happy days, in deed! When will we return to those levels?

As had been said the ad was from the late 80’s
I probably remember Workington Town more than Accrington as they were always finishing bottom !
Obviously there was no social media in the 70’s so can only speak personally.
I remember us being on John Cravens Newsround which I thought was huge !

I'd imagine it's a bit of both. One thing is for sure, it makes for terrible viewing. If I'd lost my job to the current guy, I'd feel very hard done by. He's awful, although the accent doesn't help.

Accrington were pretty much forgotten football wise. I seem to remember them mentioned in a tv milk advert. Don't recall the details.

Hopefully, its a case of watch this space, we already have our strongest squad ever and we are now recruiting players we could have never competed for previously, players in demand from higher and much bigger clubs, let alone trying to keep our best talent.

Don't get me wrong, as a teenage supporter, the experience, joy and pride of watching (including a few tears) the late 1970s teams and their great successes may never be repeated, but unless the wheels drastically come off, we are heading for more of the same and hopefully in a more sustainable way.

In the 1978-79 season, Wrexham were competing amongst some of the biggest clubs in the country in the Second Division.

Accrington finished 5th in the Cheshire County Leagues Second Division, a league below the likes of Rhyl, Formby, and local rivals Rossendale United. Before becoming relevant from a Milk advert in 1989.
