Default Re: A question for the supporters around in the 70's

I remember Accrington from the early 60s as they resigned from division 4 partway through the same season I started watching Wrexham 61/62, by the 70s i think they were pretty much forgotten.

A bit of football trivia, Accrington were replaced by Oxford United in 1962, and when Oxford United were relegated from the EFL in 2006, who replaced them….Accrington!!!

I watched the interview and I can’t figure out whether he said ask someone from the 70s or someone in their 70s.

This would a comparison between the Accrington who spent the entire decade in the Lancashire Combination versus the Wrexham team who achieved two promotions, regularly defeated Div.1 teams in the FA & League cups, qualified for European competition 3 times and were described at time by Bill Shankly as the best side outside the 1st Division. I think Coleman needs his nurse!

What a ridiculous quote to come out with on the eve of their biggest game of the season. It's not as if his comments are going to be going worldwide or anything lol........made himself look like a right weapon

There's more common sense in a jar of Coleman's mustard than in this guy

I was a teen watching Dixie and Co in the 70’s and definitely didn’t know who Accrington Stanley were.

Coleman was only born in 1962. We had just been promoted with Ken Barnes. Promoted again with John Neal in 1970. Promoted again to what is now the championship with Arfon Griffiths, and played in europe in the cup winners cup. We had done all this before he had reached the age of ten years old. Made himself look very foolish. I'm very surprised in him saying what he did to be honest.

Don't get me wrong, as a teenage supporter, the experience, joy and pride of watching (including a few tears) the late 1970s teams and their great successes may never be repeated, but unless the wheels drastically come off, we are heading for more of the same and hopefully in a more sustainable way.
More than happy we are now on the right trajectory to success at the right level ie EFL1 or Championship.

My memory isn’t as good as it was, but there is still quite a gulf between then and now, albeit it is closing.

Was Ken Barnes the greatest wing half to play for us? Ken was something else and don't mention his penalties.

Went from side to side on his run up for penalties, and placed them just inside the post. Happy memories.
