Bizarre innit?

Almost like they need the big stage that the Racecourse gives them in order to perform.

Parkinson knows what he is doing; it's his master plan to get us promoted.
Look for example at two Mansfield games. The first had Mansfield all over us, but we stood firm.
In the second, we should have scored at least 3 or 4 goals.
Parkinson picks his games, deciding when to allow players to be attacking and when to be more cautious. And his promotion formula involves a more cautious attitude in away games.

Players weren't match fit .

We'd had very little time for McClean , Evans, Boyle & Fletcher to bed in with the squad during pre season

Howard came in and steadied the ship to a degree , but Arthur has taken things up to another level .

The balance we have in the back 3 now is VERY good , with TOC being a big part of that , as is Evans when he plays there

We went through a spell with 3 CBs who could all play the ball very well - we stopped just pumping it down field - that made a huge difference . Tozer having players he trusts to get on with the game either side of him makes a huge difference to his game too

Basing our MF on Lee, JJ Evans & Cannon also made a big difference , still plenty of energy , but more controlled passing .

Mullin getting back to fitness also makes a huge difference to our defensive stats - he presses from the front and occupies defenders - they have to focus more on him than joining in with their attack .

Finally , having 2 proper wingbacks fit ( be it McClean , Mendy , Barnett or Forde ) makes a huge difference to our ability to control the game and hence ease the pressure on the defence .

It's a combination of things .... 6 clean sheets in 12 for Arthur speaks voumnes though
Evans and Fletcher did not sign until Sept, McClean early August. So pre season had gone anyway.

I just think we were caught cold, with all the hype. PP got their minds straight and since the Swindon game you have seen a big difference (with the exception of Stockport).

If you could have asked me before the first ball had been kicked I would have snatched your hand off to be in our position at present. Now lets press on.

Yes , but part of the reason they didn't sign ( or even other players weren't signed) was because once we were out in the US on the tour, effectively our transfer activity was put on pause until we got back to the UK - so it did have an impact

The midfield has seen a huge improvement and is settled now. Evans Lee and Cannon/Jones have become established as the first picks and as much as a small section of the fan base want young in for sentimental reasons I think it will be along time before we see him starting a league game.

Agree with all the posts in regards to the keeper situation being sorted making a huge difference. Arthur has been a settling and calming influence at the back that we haven't seen since Lainton.

I would like to see Hosanna come back in to the squad from January in place of Macalinden as The right side seems to be one we struggle with for fitness and injuries.

I think we would have been miles off the pace either way. Notts County and Stockport looked worse than us to start the season.

Stockport had a lot of turnover and Notts, like us, just was not ready for the physicality or pace.

August sure counts, but it ultimately doesn't matter all that much when looking at a season. Most teams are still figuring out what will work and what will not work for them. Okonkwo didn't start until matchday 10 for example.

MK Dons, Gillingham, & Accrington Stanley were the top 3 after August. Possible none of the three are in a playoff position come mid-season.

Wrexham keeps playing the way they are at the STōK Cae Ras and they'll be top 3 when the dust settles. No doubt about that.

It’s a calculated risk. In terms of football the tour wasn’t ideal preparation, but any points lost from that will be more than replaced by the players brought in from the significant money we raised.
