The Leader - News from Wrexham & Flintshire - Wrexham football hooligan jailed and banned A WREXHAM football hooligan has been jailed for six months and banned from attending matches for five years. Jonathan Greg Taylor, of Briarswood, Rhosrobin, was sentenced to 24 weeks in prison for a public order offence and for failing to surrender to bail. Taylor, 22, was involved in trouble outside The Racecourse ground on October 15 last year, both before and after Wrexham’s match with Stockport County. Wrexham Magistrates Court heard police had to use their batons to quell trouble which saw people involved fall over passing cars. Justin Espie, prosecuting, said 80 officers were deployed at the match due to the possibility of trouble involving ‘risk groups’ from both clubs. Prior to kick-off, the court heard an officer saw 20 or more people running in the direction of Wrexham General Station towards officers and Stockport fans. Mr Espie said Taylor was at the front of the group and was being aggressive and trying to get to the Stockport contingent. He said during this incident an officer reported being heavily outnumbered and fearing for his own safety, with police having to raise their batons as the group with Taylor at the front was getting too close to them. “The officer found this behaviour threatening and intimidating,” said Mr Espie. During the match, Mr Espie said Taylor was “more fixated” with watching the away supporters than the match itself. Afterwards, the court heard Taylor was involved in a scuffle on Mold Road with a group of Stockport fans. Officers had to use their batons to stop the violence escalating and to break up the groups involved, with the incident resulting in people involved falling over cars. “Women and children and elderly people were in them,” said Mr Espie. “This apparently made no difference to those involved.” Taylor is currently serving a prison sentence for a separate offence but was due to be released next week. Alun Williams, defending, said Taylor plays amateur football in the Wrexham area and asked for any banning order not to affect any match he may play in. The court was told Taylor is due to become a father in the coming weeks and was to begin working as a kitchen fitter on his release from prison. Sentencing Taylor, District Judge Andrew Shaw said: “This is a serious case of football related violence. You were at the front of the group.” The sentence includes four weeks for failing to surrender to bail when Taylor did not attend court on December 21 last year. Mr Williams said Taylor did attend a court hearing two days later. The banning order prohibts Taylor from going within 2,500 metres of any regulated football match for the next five years and attending it as a spectator. | Following the conviction, police football liaison officer PC Pete Jones said five people had now been prosecuted in relation to incidents at the Wrexham versus Stockport match. “We are pleased with the outcome as it shows how seriously football-related offences are taken by the courts,” he said. Six people were arrested following the inquiries, with one cautioned and the other four having been taken to court and successfully prosecuted. Four have now received football banning orders ranging from three to five years. “The majority of football fans are good natured and genuinely want to support their team,” added PC Jones. “They should be able to do that, without being subjected to offensive and criminal behaviour.”

Has he started coming again now? As a kid I used to find a few of the derbies a bit intimidating, I'll never forget my confusion when a Tranmere fan ran off the Kop and mooned everyone on it. Cardiff was probably the most volatile atmosphere though, I was hiding behind my dad as a few Cardiff fans got chased off the Kop.

He's already in prison for "other offences", he sounds charming.
