Wrexham vs Kidderminster Harriers- September 3rd, 3:00pm K.O

Tomorrow we welcome back Kidderminster Harriers to the Racecourse, as well as ex-Wrexham brothers Mike and Marc Williams, in what should be a tight game. The Harriers have had a cracking start to the season, unbeaten away from home and having only lost on the opening day to second placed Gateshead. Hopefully we can change their good away form and with no injuries to report on both sides (that I can find!) it will be very close.

Having a friend from university who is a Kiddy fan, I desperaretly want us to win every game against them, but in recent years he’s had all the bragging rights. Since we’ve been in the BSBP we have only beaten them once, in an FA Trophy game, and the rest of the matches have mostly seen us losing. In the last three seasons we’ve lost four, drawn two and won one, so I think it’s safe to say they are our bogey side in this division.

Hopefully we can turn this around a bit and claim our first win in the league against them and with the way we are playing I can’t see why not. There’s not been a single player not pulling his weight in the side, and although one or two may have not had the perfect game here or there, all of them have played a part. Its not often we as Wrexham fans are lucky enough to see one of our sides play with such a togetherness and fluidity, and it really is such a joy to watch. Every time we get the ball in the opposition’s half, there is a genuine buzz in the crowd and we always look like we are going to do something dangerous. In this form we could beat anyone in the league and the evidence is there for everyone to see, we completely dominated Fleetwood who many critics have as one of the favourites for the league.

But will the Manager of the Month curse strike? Yesterday it was revealed that Deano was given some recognition to go along with his recent achievements, and he most definitely deserved it. Some people had written us off this summer but the way Saunders has got the team playing together the way they are is nothing short of a miracle amongst all the uncertainty. Even though I am clearly gushing, struggling to contain my man love for the team, we do have to be realistic. The bubble will burst at some point, Dean and the players will just have to show the character of a promotion winning team and bounce back from any defeat we face.

Prediction and Attendance

Although Kiddy have a scored pretty decent amount of goals so far, they’ve also let in 6 goals, which will be the key to defeating them. If we can keep a tight defense like we have done so far and try and catch their defense out on the break we could slot a few past their keeper. We obviously have to be wary of their strikers and most of the team know Marc Williams so should be able to keep him quiet.

Still, I don’t like making winning predicitions for us as they tend to back fire so I’m going to be a bit conservative and go for a 1-1 draw. I’d be fairly happy with that and would then like us to go for the win at Barrow next week.

The alleged attendance last Monday was around 4,200 so I’m sure we’ll match or beat that. Kiddy will bring a quite a few down as well so I’m going to guess 4,500 will be announced.

Likely Starting XI

Obeng —– Knight-Percival ————- Creighton—– Ashton

Tolley ——————— Harris

Morrell ————————————————— Speight

DS seems to be going for consistency, so the only change will be Mayebi for Maxwell, who will be on Wales U21 duty. I would like to see Cheesy or Pogba start in place of Morrell against Barrow though, we’ll need him to be as fit as possible for the entire season.

Poll Results- August Player of the Month

With a staggering 52 votes, 43.33% of the voters, Nat Knight-Pericval has been named Red Passion’s player of the month. His game has certainly improved drastically since he switched to centre back. Although I didn’t share everyone’s view that he was useless last season, I really didn’t expect him to become almost undroppable this year.

Heres the overall results:

Chris Maxwell   12 10.00%
Neil Ashton   0 0%
Curtis Obeng   2 1.67%
Nat Knight-Percival   52 43.33%
Mark Creighton   6 5.00%
Lee Fowler   33 27.50%
Jay Harris   3 2.50%
Jamie Tolley   1 0.83%
Danny Wright   0 0%
Jake Speight   3 2.50%
Andy Morrell   6 5.00%
Adrian Cieslewicz   1 0.83%
Matthias Pogba   0 0%
Other?   0 0%
Gareth Taylor’s hair   1 0.83%

It could have literally been anyone this month though and NKP’s improvement has been the main contributing factor in everyone voting. The fact that Cieslewicz, who’s made some great showings off the bench, has been kept from starting shows how well the forwards have performed. Heres what some of you had to say:

"It says it all that Ashton and Danny Wright have been consistently good and neither’s got ANY votes yet! Superb team performances throughout the month" – Jaded

"I voted for NKP. Last season he looked like Bambi on ice! Totally out of it, especially being played on the right wing in the first Luton Town play off. I would have got rid last May, but he proved me wrong with excellent performances this season. Keep it up!"- Willywill

"its just fantastic looking through the posts and seeing everyone saying different names its like everyones been player of the month"- TomWAFC

"Thought Fowler straight away ,then after a second or 2 , considered NKP has come from zero to hero in a few games whereas ,most of us knew Lee was in belting form! NKP by a wisker"- Huffy

"Whilst I think NKP is our most improved player and fowler looks pretty decent the Beast has been awesome so far, not much has got past him."- GloryHunter

And one predictable comment:

"Gaz’s hair. Sexy."- Rk11

C’mon The Town!
