Get You Kit On

SEASON 1995/96

Another season, another new away colour, and yet another roaring success. I bought two shirts this season - the red home shirt and the new, sky-blue away kit, which was supposedly the same colour as used on the famed Wrexham Lager beer cans. The small matter of three embroidered words and a year below the ever-sprightly club badge boosted sales of both shirts - WELSH CUP WINNERS 1995. A historic shirt for all the right reasons, including the fact that we were the last ever Welsh (English) Football League team to win the trophy before the FAW decided to banish us, Swansea and Cardiff from the competition.

The red shirt had no buttons this time, but a v-neck piece, which included a fold-over collar, with a red and white trim. The Enkay logo proudly proclaimed for the first time that they were in fact makers of sportswear, including a simple "sports" below their logo. I think the new overall background print sold this shirt to a lot of fans, with different variations of the Enkay sports logo placed horizontally, vertically and even back to front!

The sky blue shirt is still very much a personal favourite of mine - the rounded collar didn't look out of place on this shirt, and even the crappy addition of two stud buttons failed to stop this shirt from being a hit with score of fans. The dark-blue trim on the collar and sleeves added more depth and a dark, intimidating nature to the shirt, and the Wrexham Lager logo looks as fresh and new today as it did back then. Once again, the material at the bottom of the shirt "bubbled-up", but this was only a minor drawback to a wonderful shirt.

VERDICT: True winner, true blue. 8/10.
