Pre-Match Comments

Brian Flynn: "We've got to get this thing out of our system. This poor form at home has got to stop and there's no better time to do so than against the side who are top of our division. We haven't kept a clean sheet yet so far and unless we do something about our form here we are going to be in a syndrome of where we can't get out of the rut we are in. Walsall have come down but they are now using the experience of being in the first division. Obviously they were disappointed to be relegated but they are now using that experience in a positive way to do everything to go straight back up. We have been working hard in training this week adapting to how teams play against us and we know how Walsall will play." [Source: Evening Leader]

Team News

Wrexham

Walsall

Wrexham's major problems are in the full-back department with Mark McGregor doubtful with a twisted ankle and Lee Roche has already been ruled out with a knee injury. The alternatives for manager Brian Flynn is to play new French signing Emad Bouanane at left back but he is not yet fully match fit. Apart from looking in the reserves the only other option would be to move centre back Dave Ridler out to one of the flanks with Steve Roberts coming in at the heart of the defence. Kristian Rodgers is not included in the squad as he has a groin injury, so Kevin Dearden is likely to continue in goal with David Walsh on the bench. There are further doubts over Martyn Chalk (flu - yes, flu In September!), Chris Killen (dead leg) and Danny Williams (groin). Chalk was the only player of the three to start last week and Robin Gibson or Gareth Owen would be likely replacements. Despite scoring a hat-trick for the reserves during the week, Andy Morrell will probably have to settle for a place on the bench as Brian Flynn prefers playing Craig Faulconbridge up front with the in form Hector Sam. Midfielder Dean Keates has been added to the Saddler's injury list after picking up a groin strain. Tom Bennett came through a reserves game this week and will start if Dean Keates doesn't recover in time. Darren Wrack has been ruled out with a troublesome achiles injury.
Squad (19): Dearden, Walsh, McGregor, Bouanane, Roberts, Ridler, Carey, Barrett, Ferguson, Williams, Owen, Gibson, Warren, Edwards, Sam, Faulconbridge, Morrell, Chalk, Killen. Squad (18): Walker, Brightwell, Tillson, Barras, Arauandle, Hall, Bukran, Keates, Matias, Byfield, Angell, Leitao, Roper, Emberson, Bennett, Gadsby, Carter, Eyjolfsson.

Press Conference Quotes

Brian Flynn: "I thought we started the game fairly brightly, but the period after they got the goal was a big disappointment to us, it was showing signs of our previous matches here. In the second half we were a lot better, a lot more positive and created a lot of openings which could have led to a goal. They're a good side, they're disciplined and that's why they're top of the table. On our second half endeavours we deserved something from the game, but a match is played over ninety minutes and we have to compete over those ninety minutes. I thought the Faulconbridge incident was a penalty. In the second half I thought we were good. We wanted to get the ball into positions where we could give them problems, and we did. We went for it. We said at half time. Don't be fearful, don't be scared to make mistakes, keep on the front foot as much as you possibly can and try to make things happen, and we did do that. We had to be aware of their counter attacks and they did have one or two, but overall we were a lot better in the second half. Emad did okay. He's not 100% and needs a number of games under his belt to get full match fitness. We've had some flu at the club, one or two if the younger players had it during the week, Martyn Chalk phoned in with it on Thursday and Dave Ridler had it on Wednesday, managed to sweat it out, felt better on Friday and was able to train but as the game wore on he felt the same symptoms return and that's why we made the change. It's another home defeat and we've got to get this out of our system. We had an opportunity today and we didn't take it." [Source: Wrexham Supporters Association]
Craig Faulconbridge: "I think we were left in the starting blocks in the first half, but after a talk at half-time we came out a little bit stronger and gave it a go. Mind you, the referee helped decide this one as well as I felt he could have given us a penalty on two occasions in the same move. I was definitely held back for the first one, but when the ball came back in again, I was then pulled back a second time. It was disappointing that he managed not to give either! We are having a problem getting back to teams when they get in front and we need to start getting something at home, very soon." [Source: Robins Review]
Ray Graydon: "It was vital that we got a win with no goals against. It was fantastic for me to win away like this. I did not care how we did it but all the players put in a lot of effort. It puts ups right back on target." [Source: Sports.com]
