Press Conference Quotes |
Denis Smith: "You can go around the stadium and find half the people say 'yes that was a penalty' and the other half will say 'no', but the important thing is that the referee thought it was! Until we had gone 2-0 up it was reasonably good performance, we had not given them any chances, but after the second you could see some people visibly relax. We didn’t have to go bombing forward looking for a third or fourth goal at the end, head for the corner flag and take some time off the clock might have been the better option at times. At times you could see we hadn’t played for a couple of weeks, but we worked hard and denied them chances until the last 10 minutes. Once people in front of the back three thought it was all over and deserted their posts, then we caused ourselves some problems. Today we were more patient, we had to be because of the formation they started with, but we are a young side and still learning. Steve Roberts has had an excellent season, Brian did well in the air, but the one who impressed was Dennis Lawrence, he didn’t make a mistake and did everything we could have asked of him.” [Source: Wrexham AFC] |
Brian Laws: “It was disappointing, I don’t think we saw the real Scunthorpe United today. We came here with a plan to try and nullify them and keep their wingbacks back, I thought Brough and Featherstone did not do that and that’s why they came off. The turning point was the penalty and what a dubious one it was in the first place. Ferguson ran into the box, Cliff Byrne stood up and he has knocked it past him and dived. The referee looked at the linesman, hesitated, and then given it. That probably capped his performance. We have asked them for exceptional performances and perhaps with the injuries and suspensions this was one game to many. We really needed our good players into today against a solid Wrexham side who have four games on us. With the players coming back next week we will show we are a better side.” [Source: Scunthorpe United FC] |
