Travel Guide

Directions from Wrexham: Believe it or not your journey starts on the A483 in Wrexham and ends up on the same road in Swansea! Depart on the A483 towards Oswestry picking up the A5 past Shrewsbury. At the junction with the A49 turn right at the roundabout (the one with the service station) onto the A49 and follow the long and winding road towards Hereford. 10 miles after Hereford turn right on the A4137 and this is a shortcut to take you onto the A40 towards South Wales. (If you miss this turning you can continue on the A49 and at the roundabout with the A40 turn right onto the A40.) At the roundabout with the A40 and A449 go straight on at the roundabout onto the A449 towards Newport. This road takes you to junction 24 of the M4 and here turn right onto the M4 westbound towards Cardiff. Continue on the M4 past Cardiff leaving at junction 42, the first junction signposted for Swansea. This takes you onto the A483  and follow this road until you cross the River Tawe. From here turn left onto the A4067 and after 1/2 a mile the ground will be on your right.
Car Parking: There is a designated away car parking area on the left of the main road opposite the prison. Prices are a reasonable £1.50 for cars and £4.50 for coaches. Apart from that you are looking at street parking or the city centre.
By Train: Nearest Train Station is Swansea and is located in the High Street. It is no more than a 10 minute walk from the Vetch and after exiting the station walk down the High street and turn right into Oxford Street (The Pedestrian Centre and Pizza Hut on the corner). Walk to the end of this street and the ground will be on your left after passing the Grand Theatre. Click here for the Rail Track Online Timetable or call national enquiries on 08457 484950.

Bus Station: The ground is only 300 yards from the bus station but if you do want to use them a number 1 and 3 run in the proximity of the Vetch.
Beer and Grub: For a relaxed atmosphere the best bet is to look at outlets in the Marina and the Mumbles. Other places include the The Builders Arms in Oxford Street (where the Swans Mailing List meet on matchdays) and The Potters Wheel off Kingsway roundabout. Both are only five minutes away from the Vetch and the latter offers good food and prices plus a large selection of ales. There is a good mix between home and away fans which adds to the banter. Pubs to avoid near the ground are the Swansea Jack, the Garibaldi and the Pantygydwr behind the North Bank. Food wise the Kinds Diner serves all variety of fast food and Macari's Chip shop opposite the Potters wheel Pub serves decent grub.
Cash Machines: At the nearby Tescos and Debenhams in the City centre.

Ground Information

General: Swansea were due to have moved into a new 25,000 seater stadium at Morfa by now but due to the problems behind the scenes they are still at the Vetch, which unfortunately means it is looking frayed around the edges. The away end is partially covered but the facilities are dire. On a previous visit there was only one person serving drinks and cold snacks and as you could imagine this caused a large cue at half time. This did have a plus side as there was no need to use the toilets! You have been warned. I have not visited the Vetch since Swansea were last in Division Two, so the facilities have had five years to improve but I have not read anything on the internet yet to say they have.

Match Build Up

Background
The bookies cannot split both teams for the St David's Day Derby. It will be the first time that Swansea manager Brian Flynn will come up against Wrexham since leaving the Racecourse in 2001. The game is important for both teams as they require points at either end of the table with the Jacks in danger of dropping down to the Nationwide Conference. Recent good displays have resulted in Swansea moving out of the two relegation spots but they continue to hover precariously in 21st position. The comfortable 4-0 win at the Racecourse for Wrexham earlier on in the season resulted in Brian Flynn taking over at the Vetch after Nick Cussack was dismissed shortly after, but with their only defeats in the last five games being away to leaders Hartlepool and third place Bournemouth, it will make this a difficult game for the Red Dragons despite the difference in league positions.

Team News

Swansea City Wrexham
Injuries: Lennie Johnrose failed a late fitness test on his calf and former Reds Kieron Durkan is sidelined with an Achilles problem and Steve Watkin missing with a virus. Neil Sharp only returned to reserve team action this week after a six month layoff and their are doubts over full back Terry Evans. Injuries: Jim Whitley has been ruled out today with a thigh strain and he will join Dan Bennett, Paul Barrett, Waynne Phillips on the injury list.
Suspensions: Roger Freestone (who is also injured). Suspensions: None.
Squad (17): Cutler, Evans, Howard, Tate, Smith, Mumford, Britton, Martinez, Nugent, Williams, Richards, Hylton, O'Leary, Phillips, Jenkins, Thomas, Stiens. Squad (16): Dibble, Rogers, Carey, Roberts, Lawrence, Pejic, C Edwards, P Edwards, Holmes, Ferguson, Green, Thomas, Sam, Morrell, Trundle, Jones.
Other News: Midfielder James Thomas was sent off at Hartlepool last week and he could pay the price for his indiscipline and may have to make way for James Thomas who scored for the reserves in midweek. With Roger Freestone ruled out and the only other goalkeeper on the books is rookie Ryan Harrison, Brian Flynn has moved to sign Stoke keeper Neil Cutler on a months loan and he goes straight into the team despite only signing on Friday. Other News: With Jim Whitley ruled out it will mean a first start for Scott Green and he will team up with Darren Ferguson and Steve Thomas in midfield. The other likely change is Paul Edwards to replace Shaun Holmes at left back. Edwards is back after suspension and Wrexham missed his pace last weekend despite a good performance from Holmes. Denis Smith has also hinted at a change up front with Lee Trundle in danger of being dropped for Hector Sam following a poor display last week. Elsewhere it is unchanged with Andy Dibble in goal with a back three of Brian Carey, Steve Roberts and Dennis Lawrence. Carlos Edwards completes the eleven at right wing back on all other members of the squad are on the bench.
