Travel Guide

Directions from Wrexham: Head south on the A483, A5 and M54 to junction 10a of the M6 southbound. Continue on the M6 past Birmingham and join the M1 southbound at junction 19. At junction 6a of the M1 join the M25 clockwise leaving at junction 29 heading east on the A129 for approximately 20 miles. You will pass The Bell pub on your left and at the roundabout turn right onto Victoria Avenue (Sign Posted Town centre A127) and Roots Hall will be on your right hand side. Allow at least 4 hours for your journey.
Car Parking: The car park at the ground is for permit holders only and you therefore have to revert to street parking.
By Train: Nearest Train Station is Prittlewell on the Liverpool Street Line and is a five minute walk from the ground. It is not easy to get to Southend by train as it involves using the London Underground and you tend to go around the country to get there and back. To find the ground from the station bear right out of the station along East Street and turn right at the crossroads with Victoria Avenue and the floodlights will be in view. Bus Station: From the town centre Bus Numbers 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 20, 29B and the 251stop outside Roots Hall. Contact 01702 434444 for further details.
Beer and Grub: The Golden Lion on Victoria Avenue is a particular haunt for away fans and is within staggering distance of Roots Hall. The Railway near Prittlewell station is predominantly for home supporters as is the Spread Eagle. Below the East Stand the Shrimpers Bar has a limited supply of ale and is mainly for home supporters but the friendly atmosphere welcome away fans. Food wise the best place is the Fish House on the corner of East Street and Victoria Avenue and although the queues can be lengthy the wait is worth it. Inside the ground the service has improved with bacon rolls the best bet but only go for the burgers if you are really hungry.
Cash Machines: Royal Bank of Scotland at Safeways on West Street and a Lloyds TSB on London Road.

Ground Information

General: Thankfully Southend have introduced concessions for visiting supporters since our last visit but the views from the North stand are not the best after the seats were simply bolted onto the old terraces with the first few rows virtually below pitch level. On the plus side the old toilets have now been replaced!

Seats: North Stand - Adults £14.00, Concessions £10.00
Disabled Supporters: There are 20 spaces at the back of the West Stand with toilets located next to the bar on this stand. There is match commentary available for blind supporters in the away stand. Admission is £7.00 for disabled supporters, free for blind supporters and helpers paying £13.00 and concessions £5.00. You are advised to book in advance and you can also arrange for parking spaces.
Programme: £2.00 for 48 pages
Fanzines: What's The Story, Southend Glory £1.00; The Little Gazette £0.80
