Press Conference Quotes |
Denis Smith: "This was a game that I came into thinking we could win, but in the second half I was questioning my own sanity because they came back so strongly after the break. They made life difficult for us and Whitty has had to come into his own with a couple of good saves. We had hit the bar and not got that second goal, but we played well, especially in the first half. At the start of the week, I think we would have been happy with four points. With winning today we should have had six points, because we were far, far the better side in midweek at York. I think the fact that we draw 1-1 there, must have been going through the lads head’s today as we went into the final minutes, when we hadn’t killed them off. Baz (Paul Barrett) felt his calf in the warm up, but as I said in midweek, the thing that Steve Thomas does give us is goals. The rest of his game might not be up to that at the moment, but he does score goals. That was a great strike, not at all easy when it comes back like that and I’m pleased for him." Paul Newman: "It's disappointing because it was our fifth successive defeat and I'm not happy. But you look at our performance in the second half and it was very good. We need to keep positive and keep believing because there are so many more positives than negatives and I hope the supporters can see that." [Source: Southend United FC] |
