Press Conference Quotes
Denis Smith: "Obviously extremely pleased and as hard a game as we have had all season. Dibbs has had more to do today then he has as when we have lost, but I was pleased for him, as he perhaps cost us a goal on Wednesday night. But it shows the character of the man, that he has come and performed like he has today. Character has shown through. Before the game I was thinking which of the centre backs I’m going to play, as Brian has been ill all night, Steve hasn’t slept since Boston because of his jaw and Dennis has flu! For those to play like that is tremendous. Brian was very close not to starting at all, but he gets through to half time and we then bring a kid of 17, who goes and performs like that – is a superb performance. Eddie has been struggling with his ankle and then as soon as Shaun Holmes comes on he gets whacked. If you can get money on Hull to go up next year, then do it. This is a big, big club, so from our point of view this a big result. We had been hoping to get three points at Boston and we knew it would be difficult here. In the end we get three points here and only one at Boston, which is possibly an injustice to Hull. You can go through the team, but I thought Andy did well with his penalty, under a great deal of pressure, and then Trunds sets him up for the second. Overall, you won’t find too many things that went wrong in our game, but what we did have was that little bit of extra experience in midfield. We controlled it at times and that allowed us to get the win, because if they had won today, then they would have been looking at the play-offs. Indeed, if we end up in the play-offs then these are the last team I would want to be playing!" [Source: Wrexham AFC]
Peter Taylor: "We went to Wrexham earlier in the season and I said then that they were one of the best sides in the division and nothing I saw today has changed my mind. They are an excellent team, but we did a lot of good things as well. Unfortunately though, we let them off the hook at times. We lost Steve Melton after ten minutes with a hamstring problem but that's one of those things and you never know when it's going to happen. After that we were given the penalty and really you should score them. If you miss as we did then you feel as though you've thrown something away. But I thought we kept going in the second half and scored a good goal. I said to the lads at halftime that we had to be a bit sharper and although we didn't play brilliantly on the day I thought we'd done enough to get a result. Denis Smith will probably say the complete opposite but I didn't think their penalty was one. Having said that we lost the ball in a bad area in the build up to that incident and effectively kicked ourselves in the teeth. We have to make sure that doesn't happen." [Source: Hull City AFC]
