Press Conference Quotes
Denis Smith: "I felt quite comfortable, despite them enjoying quite a bit of possession in the second half But you have to defend from the front and in the build up to their first goal, there was also a mistake by Lee Trundle. So all the blame can’t be laid on young Craig Morgan. People have pressurised us in the past but we have learnt to cope. It’s usually the centre halves that deal with them, but we were just running out of players today. I bet Andy Dibble can’t believe that when he came off with 10 minutes to go, the score would end up 2-2! I’m not satisfied with this result, as I was expecting the three points. I know they had plenty of chances, but it’s disappointing. Yet I suppose when you are 2-1 down in the 94th minute you have to be pleased with a point. Craig Morgan is going to have good future, but he has had a few problems this season and really shouldn’t be in the squad at the moment. But he has made a bad mistake, which I hope he will learn from. Then he has earned his pat on the back for attacking the ball, getting in their box and getting the equaliser." [Source: Wrexham FC]
Denis Smith: "The equaliser couldn't have come much later, but I thought we more than deserved it after dominating the first half and defending so well in the second," Smith said after the game. We lost two key defenders, goalkeeper Andy Dibble and centre-back Dennis Lawrence to injury in the last quarter of an hour and that let Cambridge in." [Source: Nationwide Football]
Dale Brooks (Assistant Manager): "John (Taylor, manager) is taking a few minutes to himself. He's obviously disappointed, like we all are, and he decided to send me. I think he's just taking stock and wracking his brains for a few answers about why we're conceding goals like that throughout the period. It was a very disappointing first half. We had no right to be in the game really, because we didn't going. We changed it about a bit and it came to fruition, we played a lot in their half in the second half, got back into the game, got ahead, and unfortunately we've failed to defend a set play in the dying seconds. We had to shake them up a little bit. For whatever reason, sometimes you need to do that and they responded well. They worked very hard and we played a little bit more direct than we usually do but it was causing them all sorts of problems. We knew they couldn't cope with three up front but, sadly, we didn't finish the job off." [Source: Cambridge United FC]
