Press Conference Quotes |
Denis Smith: "From our point of view we are disappointed, because I think we deserved the three points. But having given them the kind of start that we did and then every time we drew level we threw it away. We have still had enough chances, although we will have to look at our own defence. Considering they have scored from one of the few times they got in our half in the second period. While we have scored twice and hit the woodwork twice! Anyone who wasn’t supporting Shrewsbury here tonight would say that we should have won, but obviously those in the Shrewsbury camp will be delighted. That start gave them something to bite on, as they could then take their time with the throw ins, take their time with the free kicks. But when we let them take a second lead so quickly that once we hot 2-2, I felt there was only going to be one team to win it, but we gave the ball away in and area. It was a great cross in and a very good header from Jemson. Then we have scored a third and hit the woodwork twice, when possibly it was easier to score. The second half wasn’t like tennis at Wimbledon, as it was all one-way traffic." [Source: Wrexham AFC] |
Kevin Ratcliffe: "It was a good game, I haven't experienced a derby game like that for a long time. There was a lot of pride and passion out there from both sides, and it must have been a nice game for the fans to watch, but not nice for managers. Looking on chances they probably had more than us, and nit the woodwork a couple of times, but it was probably a fair result. I'm a little bit disappointed as we found ourselves 2-1 up when we should have still been 2-0 up, we switched of at a set-piece and that let them back into it. The wind did play a big part for both sides, and in the second half we couldn't get out of our half and I thought we played into their hands a bit. We've also shown that if we leave Jemmo in the box then he scores goals, we've created a few good chances tonight. We worked on near post corners this morning and it's paid off, we've got bodies in there and the goals come from that. It was good to see Tolley get a goal as I've been a little disappointed with the number he's got this season, so hopefully he can get a few more. For the first their first the defence have switched off, for the second the keepers called for it and not collected and for their third, we've told them all about him in the report. We've told them that he's only got a left foot and if you keep him off that then he's not going to score, if he hits it with his right he's going to hit someone in the crowd. It was always going to be a difficult game, especially following their result with Rushden on Saturday, but it was a game you didn't want to loose. I thought the crowd on both side was amazing tonight and the atmosphere was great for a derby game." [Source: Shrewsbury Town FC] |
