Press Conference Quotes
Denis Smith: "It shows our character, but we are a good team that keeps going for 90 minutes. Although at the end it was a gamble again at 2-2, as they were possibly on top. So do I tighten it up or go with three up front. It was a bit of luck, but maybe the luck is turning our way. It was though one of our poorer performances of the season but Shrewsbury got turned over by five today, maybe that’s a reflection of how hard the game was in midweek. Some of the lads were out on their feet. Brian Carey and Steve Roberts looked as though they didn’t have a run left in them, both wing backs weren’t fit and then Dibbs dropped out this morning. It’s a challenge all the time. We have been pushed to the limit but we have come through it and that’s great. If we carry on winning then no one can catch us, which is what we have to do now. But we didn’t pass it as well as we can do today, yet we still had chances. If we could have kept it at 2-0, we could have it killed off. We then fell asleep and that showed tiredness of mind at a quick free kick free kick, which is not like us. I have seen Bristol Rovers twice this week and they don’t deserve to have only one point from those two away games. If a club of their size were to go out of the Football League, then that would be a disaster. You don’t want that to happen, but two have to go and that was bad result for them today. We have now won three on trot and it takes some doing. If you can go the last 15 games or so unbeaten, then it can make life very pleasing. If we can now go the last five unbeaten, especially if we are winning, then no can catch us. Since Scott Green has come into the squad, he has had a lot of chances actually and, to be honest, if he had taken them, then we could be possible clear by now! If they only play two in there against us, then Scott has freedom to roam and he does pick off good spots and places. As for the substitution, I think the manager is 'an absolute genius!', but it’s a gamble - do we go and try to win it, or do we settle for the draw. They are slinging people at us for the win and that leaves spaces, so we went for it and the gamble paid off. The lads are back into tomorrow morning, so I will have to see who is capable of playing on Monday, which is an important game for the club. I would want to put out my strongest side, but we have to be careful as we can kill people by pushing them too much. I will talk to the players and see how they feel, but I have to be winning against Rhyl! If this carries on though, then my hair will be like Rooster's soon!" [Source: Wrexham AFC]
Ray Graydon: "I said before the game that I felt that Wrexham were a very good side, and I will be surprised if they do not get automatic promotion this season. When they scored two goals it probably looked like it was going to be a straightforward home win, so to come back to 2-2 like we did, delighted me. But to get ourselves back into that position and then to lose it in the last few minutes showed me that the players are not in the situation I'd like them to be in at this stage of the season. We had a point on the board and whatever happens we should have done everything we could to have got that point. When it is 2-2 away from home against a side like Wrexham in our position you throw everything into keeping that point, not into trying to score another goal. We threw it away, and if we keep throwing points away like we did today, make no mistake, we will end up in the Conference. A point would have been fantastic for us today. At 2-2 if we keep playing football and keep passing the ball, then we will always get a chance to win. My instructions were to keep our shape and not give the ball away and we didn't do that." [Source: Bristol Rovers FC]
Chris Llewellyn: "The goals aren't any comfort at all really. If they had helped us get a point out of the game then obviously I would be delighted, but after working so hard all match we threw it away at the end, and all the lads are really down. We had shown some great team spirit throughout the match, and to come back from two goals down was really good, but we threw it away at the end and that was very disappointing. I think the first goal their goalkeeper was probably a bit disappointed to see it go in, but obviously I was delighted. The second one was great to see it go in, and that told in our celebrations. Everyone here wants to do well for the club, and at that point, it looked like we were going to get something out of the game." [Source: Bristol Rovers FC]
