Press Conference Quotes |
Denis Smith: "Looking for the sidelines I thought Dennis Lawrence had failed his fitness, while Andy Morrell seemed to pass his, but it shows what I know as it was the other way round. Obviously this gave us a different problem, but Lee Jones has been looking sharp in training all week and his second half performance in particular was tremendous. I have to also single out Shaun Pejic who I thought was immense and gave a polish display mopping up at the back. Some people thought we should settle for the draw, but I decided to go for it. Happily Hector scored from a more difficult angle after missing in midweek and even if he hadn’t, it was worth going for it! All round it was a good performance with Steve Thomas coming into midfield and doing a good job. They are a good side and when we were giving them all sorts of problems down the left they promptly changed things round and close that gap. It was very cut and thrush and they won’t be down there for much longer. I thought we edged the first half, but in the second it seemed like it could go either way. So I needed to try and turn it so things swung back in our favour, but was going to be a gamble. I didn’t want to go three up front too early, because I didn’t want to showed my hand. As it worked out it was the right decision, but they always are when you score a winner in such a situation!” [Source: Wrexham AFC] |
Carlisle Coach Tony Elliott: "We got ourselves into a position to win, as we did on Tuesday night but we just need to be a more professional and not being so has cost us the game. We know they were a good side and expected them to come at us and they had some good passages of play. Maybe on another day the chances we had would have gone our way but at the end of the day we were in a position and had the lead but the professionalism needs to come as we need to start picking up points. Obviously the lads are very disappointed with the result and it’s up to the coaching staff to get in there and lift them again and get ready for Thursday. I wouldn’t be too concerned with the league position at the moment as we are only half way through the season but with all the cup games coming up we still need to be focused on the league as that is our priority and the player have to get their heads round that.” [Source: Carlisle United FC] |
