Denis Smith: "I think that was a big game against the inform team in the league, so turn them over 3-0 is a great result. We are hoping that Fergie’s injury is nothing more than bruising, but that allowed us to introduce Scott, although a little earlier than I had intended. He puts his foot on the ball and passes to players in his own side – which always helps. He was a little bit off the pace but not played since Christmas. Was Trunds the same player I saw at Bournemouth last week? Because this week he was magnificent! He must have saved himself last week and put two-week’s worth in today! There were three good finishes. Eddie did really well for the first new, but there was still plenty to do. Then you will not get see a better cross than Trunds for Andy Morrell, although he still had a lot to do to finish. When you take your chances it becomes a little easier, when you don’t take you chances then it becomes a little bit tense. With signing Scott, we were able to keep that balance in midfield – it was fortune he joined us yesterday, otherwise it was Rooster!" [Source: Wrexham AFC] |
Rob Newman: "There haven't been many times in my short managerial career where I've said we didn't deserve anything from the game but we got what we deserved today. It was a poor performance, the players have got to realise we're still in with a chance of getting in the play offs but you look at some of them today and it looked as though they had their summer holidays on their minds. I wasn't happy with that and we've got a week to put it right before our next game with Rushden. But with performances like that we're not going to get anything this season. There were too many of our players who just weren't up for it - if they don't show the same desire and passion as I have then they're not going to be part of this Southend team. I want people who will give me 110 percent. I want to see more fight and passion, it wasn't everyone, but more than half of the team weren't on their games today. Whether they didn't fancy it, they weren't up for it or it was too cold for some of them - I don't know - only they could tell you - but I'm very unhappy to say the least." Dennis Smith: "It was a big game for us against the in-form side in the division. We had some good performances and took our chances well." [Source: Nationwide Football] |
Rob Newman: "I don't know what was wrong with our lads. Our performance was poor. Many of them are playing for contracts, but at this rate they could be out of a job at the end of the season. Our work-rate was not good enough." [Source: Nationwide Football] |
