Press Conference Quotes
Denis Smith: "I think I’m pleased with that one! No seriously, that was a good performance against a team that fancied themselves at the start of the season to be pushing for promotion, after investing heavily in new players over the summer. To go and do it again after Saturday and to get three home wins on the trot, performing the way we have is very good and very pleasing. I have to be honest and say I thought we played well against Bradford, but on Saturday we should have won by more than four and tonight we were alright again. Everybody told me that Andy could score goals and the records show that the season before I came here he was top scorer in the reserve league, but last year he wasn’t even getting them at that level, although we didn’t have the best of reserve sides to give him the service. His attitude has been first class all the way along, but he had Craig Faulconbridge ahead of him in the side to compete against and get the balance right. Andy was perhaps unlucky not to get more games, but he has now come in and proven his point. There is confidence in the side, but the good thing is the work rate and we are closing down all over the field. The three centre backs have now played three games together and they look really good together. That was a good test for them in the second half tonight, against Flack and Goodman, they won’t come across much better than that"
John Cornforth: "If these results continue I think my days might be numbered, I really do. I just can't believe what we have seen - I am frustrated, devastated, call it what you will. I have got a lot of pride, but tonight my pride has been shattered. I feel let down and I hope the players feel they have let themselves down, too. The dressing room is silent, my players can't play much worse than that. I honestly don't think there was one positive thing to come out of the game from our point of view. I think my goalie (Kevin Miller) has got to look at himself for both of the first two goals. If a goalkeeper makes decisions he has got to see them through. The sending off was harsh. The lad just blasted the ball and it hit Curran's arm. There is no way he could have avoided it and to send him off was very harsh. But Wrexham were out of sight by that time. I would say Wrexham are one of the best sides we have played this season. Their movement and passing, everything was really good. They looked a league higher."
