Press Conference Quotes |
Denis Smith: "The way they started we were on top and I was happy, but the break in play (due to scaffolding falling onto the pitch) saw them change their system and they started to over run us in midfield. Once we sorted that out for the second half, with Paul Barrett coming on for Darren Ferguson (deadleg), then while they have had a lot of possession, it was until right at the end that Dibbs has had to make a save. They took chances, which meant that we were always looking dangerous on the break, because they needed to win. Our attitude has been superb all season, but it’s a spirit which we have built over a period of time. It comes from players having respect for each other and not just the 11 on the pitch. Paul Barrett has come on for me today and done a superb job and that’s what we have got. Shaun Holmes, Lee Jones, they have all come on and done a job. We are getting there in the league table and if we carry on winning no one can stop us. If we win on Monday, then it makes life difficult for the sides that can realistically catch us and that’s what we keep drilling into the lads. If we win then it doesn’t matter what anyone else does!" [Source: Wrexham AFC] |
Ian Britton: "It didn’t help our chances with JJ [Melligan] and Drewe [Broughton] dropping out before the game, whilst Bo [Henriksen] was missing through suspension. That just proves we need our first choice team out there to beat teams like Wrexham. I thought we had the better of the first half and we had a 25 minute spell when we played some nice stuff. We created one or two decent chances which we didn’t convert. But then it’s the same old story. Their guy [Lee Trundle] picks the ball up on the halfway line, its three versus one in our favour, we keep backing off and he score a great goals. All three defenders were at fault for that one. We then go in at the break 1-0 down, and you can’t afford to do that against teams like Wrexham who are a good side. The second half was a non-event and they’ve contained us really well. Then they go and score a second through more poor play and our inability to defend a simple corner. The teams above us all have players who do the simple things well at the right times. We don’t have the players here at the moment who can do that… and that has been our downfall. If we don’t make the play-offs then it will be because we haven’t been good enough. Luck doesn’t come into it.” [Source: Kidderminster Harriers FC] |
