Press Conference Quotes |
Denis Smith: "The first half we were poor and we hit too many long balls hoping for Andy Morrell to flick them on. Second half I had a few words at the break and we got the ball down and passed it a bit better. You have to hit the target. They have done that twice with shots from outside the box, while we are failing to from easier chances inside the box! You would put your house on Lee Jones scoring with his best chance and Hector has got to score with his, so at least you get a draw or maybe even a win. Even if the performance is not the one you would have liked. Goals change games! Their second was a great goal and you have to take your hat off to the lad. But I doubt whether it would have happened if we had taken our own chances. I was just going to go with three up front when Darren went off, so that made it difficult to do that. If you break it down then we had the better chances. Indeed, once we went down to 10-men then I was reasonably happy with our performance, but not up until that point. The pre-match injury to Paul Whitfield didn’t help, as Kristian Rogers hasn’t played in goodness knows how long. Then Shaun was ill and had to come off at the interval, with Brian Carey replacing him and he only returned to training yesterday. It was frustrating, as you can’t miss chances like that. I’m homeless now, as I couldn’t see Lee missing! But it’s a long season and we plenty to do. I’m not happy, as I’m a winner and now I have make sure that the players turn out to be the same as well." Denis Smith on Ferguson's red card: "I was looking at something else and had to ask those in the dugout what had happened. Their opinion was that it was a two-footed challenge, so if that’s right then I won’t have a complaint. I’ve just been given a copy of the video, so I’ll have to have a look at it and make my own judgement from that." [Source: Wrexham AFC] |
Ian Britton: “I’m very pleased with the result, the lads deserved it. We started the game well for a change and we carried that through for most of the game. They put us under a bit of pressure for about 15 minutes after the sending off but we weathered that. Wrexham are a good side who will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. And we’ve proved that we may not be far away either. We scored at important times. Pash’s (Sean Parrish) goal was a great effort but I was stood directly behind JJ’s and there was no way the keeper was ever going to get near that shot. All of my players worked hard and I thought we dominated the first half, in fact we should have scored two or three goals. We haven’t got to fear anyone in this league, we’ve shown that when we compete we will do well. I though the whole side from Andy Bishop up front to Stuart Brock in goal was magnificent."
