Press Conference Quotes |
Denis Smith: "A good entertaining game with everything, but a goal. I can’t complain or fault the lads, they did everything really. Hull have only had the one real shot and Paul Whitfield has saved that. We dominated the first half, but they have got a little bit more into it in the second. Which is why I couldn’t risk playing three up, as they had one sitting in behind making life difficult, so it stopped us from using that option. I thought Morrell and Trunds have done well and as we are one of the top goalscorers in the league, you can’t have any complaints about them not finding the target today. Their general play and work rate was not at fault, it’s just that they couldn’t find the back of the net. I only brought Trunds off because I wanted to try something different and not because of the way he was playing. Their keeper has not had the saves to make that I would have liked. Mind you, I would have preferred it if he hadn’t saved them at all! There were two good sides out their today and it was entertaining for the crowd. It also another cleansheet, which is pleasing against a good side. I did predict before the game that a draw could be the result, because of how equal the two sides were. But the last thing I expected was 0-0, due the forward lines that both teams had out! I know you have always lost two points at home when you draw, but I can’t see what else we really could have done today – apart from put the ball in the back of the net! Some of our build up play was superb and when Andy or Lee get free in the box, you do expect the net to bulge, but it was not to be today. I’m not going to blame any individual, because I thought it was a good solid team performance all round. Sometimes we expect perfection and we aren’t going to get it, that’s not just here, but from World Cups down. It took us a little time to settle down when Brain Carey went off with a sore Achilles and it did upset our rhythm for a short period. Team spirit was good and work rate was good - all we lacked were the goals to go with that." [Source: Wrexham AFC] |
Peter Taylor: "We got a point and at 3pm if you'd have said that we'd come and get an away draw at Wrexham then we would have taken that. I believe they are one of the best sides in the division and my players can be proud of the character they showed out there. We probably have to do that a bit more often, but when you come away from home to a difficult place such as this you have to stick together and be solid and that's what we did. We only had a couple of chances within the game but that doesn't concern me as that was part of the plan. Wrexham were always going to come at us, but by the same token I knew we'd create an opportunity or two and I'm just disappointed that we didn't take them. I was surprised that Steve (Melton) didn't hit the target when he had a great chance in the first half and I felt he could have scored late on in the second half. But as long as he keeps getting into those positions that's the main thing. We also kept a clean sheet and that's some achievement when you look at their two strikers - they're a lethal combination. Wrexham have had more shots than anyone across the divisions and it was easy to see why. I knew we'd be under pressure at times but we were away from home and we dug in and got a result. Wrexham will definitely be there or thereabouts at the end of the season and I think we've shown that we can match them." [Source: Hull City AFC] |
Peter Taylor: "It was a fair result. We were away from home and had to dig in. Wrexham is one of the toughest places to come to and I am sure that at the end of the season they will be up near to the top and I hope we can match them. When I played against Darren (Ferguson) he always passed all over the park and I wanted to make sure we kept tabs on him." [Source: Nationwide Football] |
