PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES |
Denis Smith: “I have learnt not to get too upset when the reserves lose! Yes we made changes, but we have scored four times away from home and that has still not been enough to get us through! There were a number of positives to take out of this match, such as Chris Armstrong getting through 100+ minutes and Mark Jones continuing to shine. I was also pleased with Matty Crowell’s contribution in midfield and Jimmy McNulty has made his senior debut for the club. We did seem to be looking good at 4-2 up with 20 minutes left, but then Paul Whitfield made that mistake for their third and it’s really allowed them back into the match. We can argue over the penalty, and for what it’s worth I didn’t think it was, but the referee is the one that matters and he gave it. Some people will see the line-up and say we didn’t want to win, but they would be very wrong. I want to win every game and we should have won this one!" [Source: Wrexham AFC] |
Sammy McIlroy: "The game was absolutely crazy! It was like a tennis match, end to end. One thing we've got here is spirit but, to be fair, at 4-2 down we thought there was no way we were going to get back in it. I made a substitution and thought I might as well go for it bringing on Morrison and then Owen produced a couple of bits of magic, one little bit of luck and we get back into the game. To win 5-4 I'm delighted obviously and also to get a win at Edgeley Park again is great for the fans. They went home happy and it was good for them because they've seen nine goals and for County to come back from 4-2 down was great. Some of the goals we conceded were a bit schoolboy and we've had a chat about that. You can't concede four goals and expect to score five goals every time because it's just not possible but a good thing is that we kept on going and kept fighting until the end of the game. I tried a different formation tonight for part of the game which you can do in the LDV and I'm learning all the time. The fans were brilliant again and they've waited a long time to see a home win. It's great to come out on top in a 5-4 thriller and I'm pleased for the fans as well." [Source: Stockport County FC] |
