TRAVEL GUIDE

Directions from Wrexham: Head south from Wrexham on the A483, A5 past Shrewsbury onto the M54. If you want to risk the traffic jam on the M6 at Birmingham then continue on the M54 until it joins the M6 southbound at junction 10a and then continue on the M6 until it joins the M1 southbound. If you want to miss the traffic on the M6 toll road at a cost of £2 then leave the M54 at junction 1 turning left onto the A460 until you join the M6 toll road at junction T8 after passing the M6 junction 11 turn. At the end of the toll road rejoin the M6 towards London via the M42 and continue on the M6 until it merges with the M1 southbound at junction 19. From here continue on the M1 to junction 6a where you take left hand lanes to join the M25 clockwise until junction 28 where you turn left onto the A12. The A12 is the main road to Colchester and follow this for 36 miles until you reach the junction with the A1124 where you leave at the slip road and then take right hand lanes to turn right at the roundabout. At the next roundabout take the second exit onto London Road and in just under a mile you come to set of lights with a Nat West on your left and MFI on your right. You need to be in the right hand lane here to turn right onto Straight Road (signposted Mersa). Follow this road until it ends and with the Leather Bottle pub on your left turn left at the roundabout and then take right hand lanes to turn right at the second roundabout into Gosbecks Road. At the first roundabout turn left (sign posted Mersa B1025, Layer B1026) and at the second again turn left into Layer Road (a Kent Blaxill factory will be on your left). The ground will be on your left a mile after passing the training ground. Distance = 249 miles, Time = 4 hours 30 minutes.

Car Parking: There is no parking at the ground and your best bet is to park on Layer Road itself but before the vicinity of the ground. Otherwise look at street parking off Layer Road.
By Train: Colchester station is too far to walk and your best bet is to catch a taxi at a cost of £6.00. Alternatively catch any bus into the town centre at alight at the first stop in High Street. Walk back from where the bus came and turn left at the t-junction into Head Street and at the crossroads and turn into St John's Street and catch an Eastern national bus number 64 or 64A to Layer Road.

By Bus: Eastern National 64 or 64A to the ground from St John's Street.
Places to Drink: The Drury Arms is the nearest to the ground and is OK for away supporters 'unless there is any history' - make of that what you will. The Dragon on Butt Road opposite the police station is listed in the Campaign for Real Ale Guide and also on Butt Road is the Salisbury Hotel. On Maldon Road you will find the Tavern.
Places to Eat: The Drury Arms serves hot snacks whilst the Dragon serves decent chilli on matchdays. The Salisbury Hotel serves all day breakfasts and the Tavern comes recommended for food.
Cash Machines: Co-op on Iceni Way and Barclays Bank on Cotman Road.

TEAM NEWS

Colchester United

Wrexham
Injuries: Have all cleared up with SImon Brown (food poisoning), Alan White (unewell), Gavin Johnson (unwell), Joe Keith (knee), Scott McGleish (knee/illness) all back in the squad and available for selection. Injuries: Hamstring injuries have prevented Darren Ferguson, Jim Whitley and Carlos Edwards from travelling and they join longer term victims Andy Dibble, Brian Carey and Shaun Pejic on the sidelines.
Suspensions: Wayne Andrews Suspensions: Paul Edwards.
Squad (19): S. Brown, McKinney, Gerken, Halford, Stockley, Baldwin, Chilvers, White, W. Brown, Keith, Izzet, Pinault, Bowry, Johnson, Cade, Williams, Johnston, Fagan, McGleish. Squad (16): Ingham, Roberts, Morgan, Lawrence, Thomas, Barrett, Crowell, Holmes, Armstrong, Llewellyn, Whitfield, Sam, L Jones, M Jones, Mackin, Spender.
Other News: Goalkeeper Simon Brown is likely to get a recall after being unwell with Dean Gerken dropping to the bench. The five places in defence will go to Alan White, Greg Halford, Wayne Brown, Sam Stockley and Joe Keith. In midfield will be Gavin Johnson, Dobby Bowry and Kem Izzett with two out of Gareth Williams, Craig Fagan or Scott McGleish upfront. Other News: With Denis Smith's squad limited to only 16 players then his selection choice is rather simple with the only real decision in midfield. Mike Ingham is in goal with a back three of Steve Roberts, Craig Morgan and Dennis Lawrence. Steve Thomas will feature at right wing with Shaun Holmes coming in on the left. Paul Barrett and Matt Crowell are certain starters in midfield with Chris Llewellyn the likely choice to form a link between the back the attack of Chris Armstrong and Lee Jones. The remaining five players will be on the bench.
