PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES |
Denis Smith: "Both sides had chances and we can’t say we were robbed. In the week I felt we should of got something out of it, but today we could have won, but equally so could they. We made the mistake for the first one, with Pej giving it away, but having said that it could have gone anywhere once it hit Brian (Carey). When lucks with you, the worst it does is hit the bar, but when it’s against you, it goes where it did today, right in the top corner. That’s life, but we could have done with holding onto that first lead for a little bit longer. Before they got their second equaliser, we have created enough chances at the start of the second half to have taken the game away from them. But at least we are creating the chances, even if we haven’t quite got the balance right yet. If you look at it, this was possibly our worst defensive display of the season, but we are still making them at the other end. I have never worried about it coming together, but today we didn’t have the balance right. I don’t want to be too defensive, but then again I’d don’t want us to be suicidal, so we have to get that right and we will as the season goes. Things will chance and I have had the opportunity to do just that with Armand coming in when Lee Jones was not fit. Chris Llewellyn and Lee are linking up superbly together in this new formation; they could have done with Chris Armstrong in there with them. When Hector came on at half time, we saw what he can do, but then he disappeared a little again. But we know that Hector is always liable to cause those sorts of problems. As for the Steve Thomas incident at the end, I think that referees have to see a nailed on penalty before they will give them and you can’t blame for that after incidents like the Perez one.” [Source: Wrexham AFC] |
Paul Sturrock: “It was a very zany situation in the first half, with two scary goals [given] away, and then we had to chase the game. To be fair, the players showed fantastic attitude to come back in the game twice, and we had several chances in the second half to have turned the game completely, but I think, overall, a draw was the fair result. There’s actually no point in dissecting it any longer. Every week we’re talking about this [goal] and that one, or that one and this one, and it’s got to the stage where we should maybe sweep it under the carpet. We sit here, seven games without defeat, which I can’t believe, with the number of goals we’ve conceded. We must have the worst goals-against and most goals-for in the league. It’s pretty scary at the minute how many goals we’re scoring and how many goals we’re letting in. As usual, it must have been an exciting game for the fans to watch. It’s not great for people sitting in dug-outs. We have shown good attitude again to come back into the game. I thought our midfield four were excellent today. I though Marino [Keith] was excellent today, too. I was very pleased with their contribution. Chuck Norris was immense. Everybody’s played their part today. We’ll have a free week, thank goodness, and we can stand on that training-ground and get back to being the China Wall that we used to be. Hopefully, we can get it all ironed out.” [Source: Plymouth Argyle FC] |
