PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES |
Denis Smith: "I thought that for the first 20 minutes we were possibly the better side, but once they scored they put us under a great deal of pressure on us and I told the players at the interval that we were lucky to be only one-goal down. We had to push out and push on and give them ore problems. At the start of the second half we were doing that, but you still couldn’t see where a goal was going to come from. But the longer the game went on and we keep it tight, they started to open it up a little and we found a few little gaps at the back. Lee Jones’ finish was a super finish, as once people have had a good shot saved they can easily cut off, but he didn’t and it was a super finish. But then you put Shaun Holmes, who consistently strikes a ball like that in training, so much so, that the lads call him ‘The Hammer’, but we don’t see it enough in competitive games. Maybe that will the push off for him to go and do it more often! Once the equaliser went it, Carlos was going off on his runs and there seemed to be an extra stride in everybody’s run. We have had to battle, to dig in and big Brian has put his head in a few places, young Pej and Dennis have all done well. We have come up a division and it’s been hard playing against some big men, leaving us one or possibly two players short in that department. Today we had Oz marking Gary Jones and when that happens you know you have a problem! But we have dealt with it well. Those who have needed to head have headed it and those who need to tackle have made the tackles. We have ridden our luck, there’s no denying it and we have been fortunate, but that’s football and it’s happened to us. We needed the win and we have been fortunate enough to have come away with that!" [Source: Wrexham AFC] |
Denis Smith: "Naturally I have got to be pleased with the win but we rode our luck a little. I don't like a keeper having to work that hard. He made some terrific saves but we scored two outstanding goals." |
Ray Mathias: "We had enough chances to have won three games not one. It sums up our season so far. We might have been unlucky but we should have killed the game off long before they scored. Their first goal was from a breakaway. There was nothing we could do about the second but we should have been streets ahead by then." |
