PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES |
Denis Smith: "In the first half we allowed them to dictate. They launched balls in behind us, which we should have been able to deal with, but we didn’t defend particularly well. We didn’t take our chances! In the second half we got about them and dictated things to a certain degree, but again we haven’t scored. If we don’t take these chances, then we aren’t going to win games. We have had chances in both halves and if you look at these chances, we have had better ones than them. The two that they have had, I can’t believe the goals that they have scored, as twice the lad has got clear in the box. In fact, for the first one I missed it as I was writing something down, which obviously shows that I didn’t feel it was a particularly dangerous situation! I think I know what happened, which I will confirm when I look at the video, and I’m not particularly happy about it. We were defending at the time, so he shouldn’t have got clear and while I won’t name names, there were people who didn’t do their job. Which is something we have been doing so far this season, we have been defending well. We then had to work hard to get back into the game, but apart from scoring a couple of goals, there wasn’t much more we could have done in the second half. Nobody is finding us a pushover and we didn’t get eight put passed us. Indeed, Andy Dibble had such a quiet second half that he could have taken his deckchair out there with him! We lost Carlos at half time with an ankle injury and obviously to be without your most attacking player is a problem, but I thought Ozzie did the job quite well. Pej looked a little bit tired and he wasn’t the only one, but I only had one defender on the bench to bring on.” [Source: Wrexham AFC] |
Neale Cooper: "We played some exceptional football in the first half, but we knew we couldn’t keep it up for the whole game. We practice two and three touch football on the training ground and you saw the end result out there tonight. We knew that they would keep coming at us in the second half, but we defended well. Michael Nelson and Chris Westwood were superb again and both Mickey Barron and Mark Robinson supported them well. Mark got his chance tonight because he’s worked hard and shown me something in the past two weeks that I hadn’t seen before – a kind of hunger. Up front, Eifion did well considering he’s been in bed for the past two days with a cold, but we asked him to give us his best with Marco being missing, and he did us proud. Clarkie is a very honest player and has played well in the last two games. We told him to be more of a goal threat for us and he’s come up trumps.” [Source: Hartlepool United FC] |
