PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Denis Smith: "In the end to lose doesn't really matter, but we know we should have been out of sight by half-time. That's twice now in recent weeks we have outplayed a top side at home but still come away with nothing. An injustice has been done - not only on the field but all around the club. This is no the fault of the players and we have not been relegated for footballing reasons - but rather by a rule. This hurts a great deal, because if we were a poor team and deserved to go down, I could live with that. But as people will have seen, we are far from being a bad side. I would like the opportunity to keep our better players together, but dropping down a division won't help that. We will have to wait and see who buys the club, to see how things develop over the summer. I have enjoyed my time here and I hope it continues, but that might be up to the new owners." Danny Williams: "Everyone is down in the changing room; that's to be expected. It was a bit like the Luton game, when we did so well in the first half and then lost in the second. I thought we just ran out of steam a bit today. We played so well and created so much in the first half, but we didn't finish them off. We played so much flowing football, but we didn't take our chances. We had more than enough opportunities to have won the game tonight, and they weren't half chances, they were good chances. However, we didn't stick them away and we paid the price. I know that any team's likely to have a spell when they came back into the match, but we could have won by five or six today. I think the lads know that and that's why we feel particularly down. But at the end of the day it was missed chances and bad marking that cost us. As for off the pitch, everyone's in the dark at the moment. Only a few of us are under contract, so the gaffer's got a hard job. He's had a hard job all season to be fair and he should get Manager of the Season for what he's had to put up with. It's terrible and it's tragic to see." [Source: Wrexham AFC]
Martin Allen: "This was as much for them as it was for the players. They have backed me all season and I am delighted that we still have a chance of going up. I asked for a little bit extra from the players at half-time and they gave it to me. It's been tough on them this season, to cope with so many matches. It has been asking a lot of them but maybe now I can give a few of them a break. Our next aim is to get to Cardiff then go on to win promotion." [Source: IC Wales]
