TRAVEL GUIDE

Directions from Wrexham: Head south from Wrexham on the A483, A5 past Shrewsbury onto the M54. If you want to risk the traffic jam on the M6 at Birmingham then continue on the M54 until it joins the M6 southbound at junction 10a and then continue on the M6 until it joins the M1 southbound. If you want to miss the traffic on the M6 toll road at a cost of £3 then leave the M54 at junction 1 turning left onto the A460 until you join the M6 toll road at junction T8 after passing the M6 junction 11 turn. At the end of the toll road rejoin the M6 towards London via the M42 and continue on the M6 until it merges with the M1 southbound at junction 19. From here continue on the M1 to junction 6a where you take left hand lanes to join the M25 clockwise until junction 28 where you turn left onto the A12. The A12 is the main road to Colchester and follow this for 36 miles until you reach the junction with the A1124 where you leave at the slip road and then take right hand lanes to turn right at the roundabout. At the next roundabout take the second exit onto London Road and in just under a mile you come to set of lights with a Nat West on your left and MFI on your right. You need to be in the right hand lane here to turn right onto Straight Road (signposted Mersa). Follow this road until it ends and with the Leather Bottle pub on your left turn left at the roundabout and then take right hand lanes to turn right at the second roundabout into Gosbecks Road. At the first roundabout turn left (sign posted Mersa B1025, Layer B1026) and at the second again turn left into Layer Road (a Kent Blaxill factory will be on your left). The ground will be on your left a mile after passing the training ground. Distance = 249 miles, Time = 4 hours 30 minutes.

Car Parking: There is no parking at the ground and your best bet is to park on Layer Road itself but before the vicinity of the ground. Otherwise look at street parking off Layer Road but be careful for the double yellow lines as the council are now issuing tickets if you park on the grass verges. With this in mind free parking is now provided by Colchester Garrison and is located opposite the Sporting Pavilion accessed from Butt Road or Mersa Road.
By Train: Colchester station is too far to walk and your best bet is to catch a taxi at a cost of £6.00. Alternatively catch any bus into the town centre at alight at the first stop in High Street. Walk back from where the bus came and turn left at the t-junction into Head Street and at the crossroads and turn into St John's Street and catch an Eastern national bus number 64 or 64A to Layer Road.

MATCH PREVIEW

THE OPPOSITION

Phil ParkinsonColchester manager Phil Parkinson (left) did not say much on his team's performance following the 1-1 draw at Blackpool as the two controversial incidents during the game took centre stage. Blackpool were up in arms when Colchester equalised with one of their players was down injured and during injury time a fight broke out involving the majority of players after a Colchester players was stamped on. The result itself would have been a disappointment for Colchester as they had started the day in fifth position and they would have been looking to come back with three points against third bottom Blackpool.

Colchester had am impressive start to the season winning four out of their first five games including a 3-0 thrashing of Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on the opening day of the season. Their good form continued in September and despite a set back at home to Mk Dons they bounced back in the following game to knock Premiership West Brom out of the League Cup.  Colchester currently lie in 18th in the form table but with six wins at home in all competitions this season will make it a difficult task for the red Dragons at Layer Road.

Colchester's top goal scorer is Craig Foran and will be a major threat to Wrexham with his exceptional pace. Fagan signed on loan last season from Birmingham after failing to break into their first season and made the move permanent on transfer deadline day in March 2004. As well as scoring five goals this season his fiery nature has resulted in Fagan accumulating five yellow cards but is only one booking away from a suspension as one of the bookings was in the League Cup.

THE MATCH

Wrexham Team News: Matt Shaw has signed on none contract terms on Monday and is included in the squad due to the injury problems Denis Smith has suffered from the weekend. Ruled out of the game are the long term Andy Dibble and Carlos Edwards and they have been joined by Jim Whitley, Brian Carey and Chris Armstrong following the injuries they picked up against Walsall. With only 17 named in the squad Denis Smith has limited options and will likely name the most experienced players available with Matt Smith in goal in front of a back three of Steve Roberts, Dennis Lawrence and Shaun Pejic. The midfield three of Danny Williams, Darren Ferguson and Alex Smith with Dean Bennett and Andy Holt on either flank. Up front Hector Sam will partner Chris Llewellyn with Matt Shaw likely to be on the bench.

Wrexham Squad (17): Baker, Evans, Roberts, Pejic, Morgan, Lawrence, Holt, Bennett, Spender, Crowell, Smith, Ferguson, Williams, Jones, Sam, Llewellyn, Shaw

Colchester Team News: Colchester boss Phil Parkinson will welcome back striker Craig Fagan after he recovered from a hernia operation. Goalkeeper Aidan Davison is expected to be out of action for several weeks with an Achilles injury.

Officials: The match referee is Keith Stroud of Dorset and he is assisted by Steve Chittenden and Steve Tincknell from Hertfordshire. Keith Stroud has refereed six games this season booking 21, at an average of 3.5 per game, but has sent no players off.

Weather: Clear skies with temperatures reaching a low of 11 degrees Celsius with a 10 mph south easterly wind.

The Bookies View: Corrals are offering 12/5 for a Wrexham win with Colchester best priced at 10/11 with Paddy Power and Stanley Bet. Sporting Odds, Stanley Bet, Bet365 and Premier Bet are all offering the draw at 3/1.
