PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Denis Smith: "In the second half we were bulled off the park but in the first half if you came to watch the game and didn't know the league table, you would not know that we were at opposite ends and would have struggled to tell which team was chasing the title. You need to be mentally strong and when you are doing well things go for you. Their goals came from two set-pieces where we missed Brian Carey, who may have headed those away. We performed well and dominated the first half. They scored from two set-pieces and that shouldn't happen. I don't concede that we are now relegated. There are twelve points left to play for and we need to turn our performances into wins. We will keep battling away until it is impossible for us to stay up. I have to deal with what I have got. There are two sides to football, you have got to be physically and mentally strong. It's no use staying in the League and winning if there is no club at the end of it. I'm not happy with the situation, it's not fair on the players or the staff who keep asking me questions and I've not got answers. The people who are looking to buy the club are the right people to take it forward. However, they need to deal with Mr Hamilton and until a deal happens, we are stuck. In the first half the players deserved medals. If we end up going down, we will be two divisions from where I want this club to be. I'm trying to get us to be consistent. I'm trying to be upbeat as I don't like getting beaten. A couple of things went against us second half but both of their goals came from set-pieces which is disappointing from our point of view. My next problem is that we need three points on Tuesday at Port Vale and that's as far ahead as I'm looking at the moment." [Source: Wrexham AFC]

Mike Newell: "Winning the championship and having a medal is the most important thing in football. These lads have been together for a couple of years and although we brought in a few players we have moved forward together. To be able to call ourselves champions at the end of a 46 game season is, I think, the ultimate prize. Whatever level some of these players play at, they will always look back at this experience and hopefully it will be one of the best seasons they have ever had. Everyone at the club should be proud of what we have achieved. I am very proud to have taken the club to the Championship and with two games left to play, it makes this achievement even more special." [Source: Luton Town FC]

YOUR VIEW

morrell34: "I thought we had it in the bag and then we lost our cool in the 2nd half. We matched them right until we conceded, then as usual we panicked. We lost our shape, suddenly ran out of ideas and it was downhill from then on. We don't seem to know what to do when we go behind. We get frustrated and the game slips away."

TaidTom: "We lack leaders when the chips are down. In the first half we were playing well and everyone wanted the ball. Second half, we concede, panic and EVERYONE hides. The body language of EVERY player says everything. At least we're down, with Torquay winning. Now let's concentrate our minds on saving the club."
Sean Reckless: "The defending in the second half was shoddy to say the least. There seemed to be no spark or energy in the second half. Ugarte looked like he didn't care less, Pejic looked out of his depth, Big Dennis was all over the place. The impression I got from the players at 2-1 was on of resignation to the inevitable. A deeply frustrating afternoon because we could easily had three points if we had carried on where we left off."
Red Stans Home: "We played well in the first half, Luton looked a little jaded but they obviously heard Hull were losing and came out and wanted it more, they played the long ball had runners from midfield and were physically stronger than us. We looked very light up front, I know Llewellyn is rated as a player but as a striker he doesn't bring enough the team, no real strike threat up front, even Juan wasn't pulling the trigger like he usually does."
baz: "We've cut the players a lot of slack, and that's probably right. But when you've set benchmarks like Oldham away or the LDV final, you can't really then give excuses for displays like today. One more dropped point by us, or one gained by Torquay and that is that. And even then Denis can't exactly get the house in order. It's hard to take."
