MATCH PREVIEW

THE OPPOSITION

Barnsley have had a slow start to the season although their only win came against title favourites Bristol City in the second game of the season. On the weekend Barnsley suffered defeat in the Yorkshire derby against Hull City who clinched all three points with a late winner. Barnsley have taken the lead in all five of their league games this season but on only one occasion have the Tykes been able to hold on for the three points.

Manager Paul Hart was defiant following the defeat when he told the Barnsley official web site: "We probably did not deserve to lose the game but we have done. It was another late goal that cost us and that was down to poor defending. It could be down to a lack of concentration but I do not feel that is the case. It was down to poor decision making."

Paul Hart is looking forward to the game at Wrexham and is equally pleased that the match comes so soon after the Hull defeat. Hart continued: "It is good that we have a game coming up on Monday because the sooner we can get back out on the field the better. We have to get this result out of our system and work to get a result on Monday."

Supporters are not sharing Hart's confidence and one fan attempted to get at Hart as Hull City scored their second goal on Saturday and the Tykes were also booed off the pitch at the final whistle.

THE MATCH

Wrexham Team News: If Denis Smith had injury worries for the Bournemouth match he would have been having nightmares for this game as captain Darren Ferguson looks unlikely to play after a clash of knees forced him off during the second half at Dean court on Saturday. Wrexham were already without Carlos Edwards (ligaments), Alex Smith (Achilles) and Jim Whitley (knee) but on the plus side Matt Crowell returned from injury and he is likely to get his first start of the season after the midfielder replace Darren Ferguson on the weekend. Andy Dibble, Chris Armstrong and Brian Carey all have knocks but are expected to play against the Tykes. Apart from Crowell replacing Ferguson then do not expect any changes to the starting line up with Andy Dibble in goal with a back three of Steve Roberts, Brian Carey and Dennis Lawrence. Danny Williams and Matt Crowell will play in midfield with Dean Bennett and Andy Holt as right and left wingbacks respectively. Chris Llewellyn will again feature in the withdrawn attacker role with Chris Armstrong and Hector Sam upfront.

Wrexham Squad (19): Dibble, Baker, Roberts, Carey, Lawrence, Pejic, Morgan, Bennett, Holt, Spender, Done, Ferguson, Williams, Crowell, Mackin, Armstrong, Llewellyn, Sam, Jones.

Opposition Team News: Paul Hart, in contrast to Denis Smith, has virtually a full squad to chose from. Stephen McPhail has recovered from his dead leg and Jacob Burns' groin problem has cleared up but neither player featured against Hull City on the weekend. Michael Chopra has joined Barnsley on loan after enjoying similar spells at Nottingham Forest (wit Paul Hart) and Watford last season. Chopra made his debut for the Tykes in the right wing position  against Hull replacing Michael Boulding in the starting line up.

Officials: The match referee is Mark Cowburn of Blackpool but thankfully Darren Ferguson is injured so we should at least remain with eleven men comes the full time whistle. Mark Cowburn claimed that Ferguson blasted the ball at him Huring a draw against Millwall a couple of seasons ago! Mark Cowburn will forever been remembered for his performance at the Racecourse in August 2001 against Colchester when he sent off Darren Ferguson and Martyn Chalk and booked five other players. Brian Carey then become the third Wrexham player he sent off in that season following his dismissal at Oldham in January 2002. He also sent Carlos Edwards off during the promotion season at home to Bury and refereed our 2-1 defeat at Barnsley last season. Expect fireworks! This is Mark Cowburn's first game of the season but last season he issued 81 yellow cards in 27 games, at an average of three per game, and sent off 7 players. Mark Cowburn will be assisted by Tony Horton and Richard Smith of the West Midlands.

Weather: Sunny intervals with a maximum temperature of 16 degrees Celsius. North westerly wind at 12 mph with a relative humidity of 69%.

The Bookies View: Stan James have Wrexham best priced for the win at 6/4with bet direct offering 2/1 on the away win. Corals, Stanley Bet, Premier bet and Tote Sport are all offering 12/5 for the draw.
