Mansfield Town

Kick Off @ 19:45

The Stags

Peter ShirtliffThe Stags parted company with manager Carlton Palmer in September with the former Stockport manager stating he could no longer take any abuse from the crowd. Palmer's assistant Peter Shirtliff was appointed caretaker manager and the Stags made his position permanent when the former Wednesday player was appointed manager at the beginning of November.

During his caretaker spell Shirtliff captured the signing of Manchester City's Jonathan D'Laryea on loan and has extended the midfielders stay at Field Mill into a second month. Shirtliff has also bolstered his attacking options with 24 year old Allan Russell joining on loan until the New Year after the striker left fellow league 2 side Macclesfield following a contract dispute.

Mansfield's top goal scorer is striker Richard Baker who has found the net on 13 occasions so far this season. Baker has certainly hit a purple patch with his brace in the FA Cup this weekend making it 10 goals in 9 games for the former Rotherham striker who arrived at Field Mill in the summer of 2004.

Past Encounters

The club's last met in five years ago in the first round of the League Cup and despite Wrexham winning the first game away from home we went out on aggregate courtesy of a 3-0 reverse at the Racecourse. The last league meeting was in the 1991/92 season with both teams winning their home matches, Wrexham 3-2 and Mansfield 3-0.

The clubs have met on 67 occasions with Mansfield leading the way on 29 wins with Wrexham 7 behind on 22 and there have been 16 draws.

Form Guide

Wrexham: LLDWLWDD

League Position: 9th (19 games)

Mansfield: LWLWWLWW

League Position: 21st (18 games)

Mansfield will visit the Racecourse on the back of two consecutive victories over Grays in the FA Cup and Stockport in the league. Prior to this Mansfield had recorded three successive victories in the league before this run came to and end with an emphatic 3-0 home defeat against Bury.

Following the 3-0 victory at Oxford, which was the first away win of the season, Wrexham recorded successive draws against Peterborough and at Boston last weekend. The draw at home to Peterborough ended a spell of three successive victories at the Racecourse but away from home Wrexham have struggled with a draw at Peterborough coming on the back of defeats at Blackpool and Bristol Rovers.
