The Opposition

Gudjohn Thordardson during his spell as Stoke City manager
Former Stoke and Barnsley manager Gudjon Thordarson took charge of Notts County at the end of May and immediately called to make their Meadow Lane home a fortress for the coming season.

"We really need to make teams dislike coming to Notts. It could give us a bit of an edge," he told the club website. "The home record does not read that well, and if you want to be successful you need a good home record."

The club have been kept afloat during the summer by a £50,000 loan from the Supporters Trust and Thordarson's activity in the summer transfer market has been a rather low key affair. He did make his first signing in late June when former Manchester United keeper Kevin Pilkington arrived on a free transfer but the club were annoyed when midfielder Paul Bolland moved to Grimsby whilst Thordarson was on holiday. Since them Dan Martin, Brian O'Callaghan, Lewis Mahon and Andy White have agreed terms to strengthen all areas of the team.

County have had a strong pre season at home by defeating Championship side Derby and Gillingham from league 1 although they did fall to defeat at Hereford last weekend.

Team News

Wrexham Team News: Wrexham are reporting no injury concerns with the only doubt over defender Dave Bayliss as his wife is now overdue to give birth. Therefore expect no changes from the weekend with Michael Ingham starting in goal with a back three of Shaun Pejic, Dave Bayliss and Shaun Pejic with Andy Holt at left wing back. Holt may have to drop back into defence if Bayliss' wife goes into labour prior to kick off and this will see Alex Smith start on the left. Danny Williams, Darren Ferguson and Mark Jones make up the midfield with Lee Roche on the right. Jon Walters and Lee McEvilly continue up front. Matt Crowell could be available following a knee injury but Jim Whitley's hip continues to rule him out.

Wrexham Squad (18): Ingham, Michael Jones, Pejic, Bayliss, Lawrence, Spender, Ferguson, Williams, Mark Jones, Roche, Bennett, Holt, Smith, McEvilly, Walters, Mackin, Evans, Crowell.

County Team News: Notts County have not reported any injuries following their draw at Torquay on the weekend but remain with out Ian Richardson and Mike Whitlow whilst Riben Zadkovich serves the second of a three game ban. There were some doubts over Dan Martin after he was replaced at half time but the young defender reported for training with no problems.

Officials: The match referee is Mick White from Sussex and he is assisted by Patrick Keane and Craig Pawson with Steve Bratt as the fourth official.

How to get there?

By Car: Leave Wrexham on the A534, A51 and A500 towards Stoke, then the A50 to Utoxeter and Derby. About two miles after the Derby Welcomebreak take right hand lanes for the roundabout where you take the second exit to continue on the A50. This takes you to junction 24 of the M1 where you take the second exit at the roundabout to join the A453. Travel through Clifton and after passing Trent University you reach the junction with the A52 where you go straight on at the lights to pick up the B679 and follow signs for West Bridgeford. Continue on this road for a mile and at the roundabout take the first left onto the A60. Continue over Trent Bridge and take the first right at the lights into Castle Market Road where Meadow Lane will be on your right hand side. Allow yourself at least 2 hours 30 minutes.

By Train: Nottingham Midland Railway Station is a two minute walk from Meadow Lane. Exit the station via the main entrance and turn left and left again in Queens Road. Follow this road until it ends at the t-junction with London Road where you turn right onto London Road. Follow this road until your first left turn where you enter County Road and the stadium will be visible on your right. Click here for the Rail Track Online Timetable or call national enquiries on 08457 484950.

Car Parking: Park either at the Cattle Market opposite the away end costing £2.00 or at the club car park at a cost of £2.50. Street parking is also available.

Beer and Grub: A trip to Nottingham cannot be made without a few jars in the Hooters Bar on Great Northern Close in London Road. Also recommended is the Globe on London Road just across from the hump back bridge over the canal plus it also serves food. On the other side of Trent Bridge is the Southbank that also serves real ale as well as serving excellent food and having numerous TV screens. If travelling by train then just across from the front of the station is the Vat and Fiddle. Closer to the ground further down Meadow Lane is the Magpies Pub. Named after the club its has real ale and decent grub at decent prices and also has parking spaces if you get there early. Finally, there is the Trent Navigation and Trent Bridge Inn located nearby and the Navigation has parking spaces at a cost of £1.50. You really can't go wrong wherever you pick.

Cash Machines: Bank of Scotland at the services on London Road and a Nat West Machine at Nottingham Forest's City ground.
