Wrexham v

Bury

Saturday 11 March 2006

Kick Off @ 19:45

The Shakers

Chris CasperThe midweek 1-0 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Stockport has left the Shakers three points off the final relegation spot in 21st place. It has been a difficult season for Bury which has seen them flirt with relegation throughout, although they have not occupied one of the bottom two positions since their 12th game of the season.

For a team that is struggling in the table, Bury have recorded four victories on their travels from Gigg Lane and this is twice as many as Wrexham. Even more surprising is that six of their nine league victories have come against teams that occupy the top half of the table and if Bury had converted a third of their ten draws they would find themselves in a comfortable mid table position.

Manger Chris Casper took over at Gigg Lane last September and this is his first managerial position. Casper took over from the experienced Graham Barrow after he was dismissed after 18 months in charge following a poor start to the season.

Casper signed Kasper Schmeichel, the son of Peter, from Manchester City last month on loan and he has made three appearances for the Shakers after having a similar loan spell at Darlington earlier on this season. Casper has also signed midfielder Joe Anyinsah on loan from Preston but lost the services of striker Nathan Jarman after Barnsley recalled him from his loan spell.

Bury's top scorer is still Simon Whaley with seven goals even though he joined Championship side Preston in a £250,000 at the beginning of January. After him is Dwayne Mattis and Danny Reet with four goals each.

Past Encounters

Lee McEvillyThe teams last met in August with Wrexham coming away from Gigg Lane with a 2-2 draw. Lee McEvilly opened his account for Wrexham with the first goal of the game and Robbie Foy restored Wrexham's lead after Bury had drew level. Wrexham failed to hold on for victory with Tipton equalising in the second half for the Shakers.

Prior to this the teams last met in the 2002/03 season with the first game at the Racecourse also ending 2-2. The visit to Gigg Lane was the last game of the season where Wrexham celebrated promotion in style courtesy of a 3-0 win.

In total the teams have met on 33 occasions in the league with Wrexham ahead on 18 victories compared to Bury's six and there have been 9 draws.

Form Guide

Wrexham: DWLWWDLD

Position: 10th (33 games)

Bury: LLDDDWDL

Position: 21st (34 games)

Bury come into the game with only one win in their last nine games. The win came at Shrewsbury earlier on this month but since then they have recorded a draw at rivals Rochdale before going down to a 1-0 defeat at home to Stockport in their last game. Prior to the Shrewsbury win, the Shakers had recorded draws against fellow strugglers Rushden & Diamonds, Torquay and Barnet.

Wrexham had to come from two goals down to pick up a point at strugglers Barnet last weekend. This is in complete contrast to their previous away game when they let slip a 2-0 advantage at Mansfield to come away with a point. In between these games Wrexham tasted defeat at home to Northampton and this ended a run of three games unbeaten, which included victories over Wycombe and Rushden & Diamonds at the Racecourse and the 2-2 draw at Mansfield.
