The Silkmen |
Following a poor start to the season,
when the Silkmen recorded only two victories in their opening 15 league
games, Macclesfield currently lie three points above the relegation
zone. Seven of Macclesfield's eight victories have come at home this
season but they currently lie bottom of the away league table.
Macclesfield last week missed out on a appearance ain the
LDV Vans Final when they lost the Northern area final to Carlisle on the
away goals rule.
Macclesfield's top scorer is former Premiership
striker Clive Wijnhard who has scored twelve times this season despite
only arriving at Moss Rose from Darlington in October. The Dutchman
originally arrived on loan but the move was made permanent when the
transfer window opened last month.
Leaving the Silkmen at the same time was last season's
top scorer Jon Parkin who has joined Championship side Hull City for an
undisclosed fee. The former York striker arrived at Macclesfield in
February 2004 and in under two years he had found the back of the net 30
times in only 63 games. |
Past Encounters |
The teams last met in September when Macclesfield left the
Racecourse with a 1-1 draw after Allan Russell cancelled out Danny
Williams's opener in the second half. With Macclesfield only joining the
Football League during the 1990s there have only been five previous league
meetings between the teams. Wrexham lead the way with three victories with
Macclesfield only winning once and there has also been one draw. |

at Rushden & Diamonds and Carlisle in the LDV final first leg. Prior to
these defeats Macclesfield had recorded four draws and in their last game
they tasted defeat at home to Rochdale.Wrexham have
gone four games without a win with their goalless draw against Bury coming
on the back of a 2-2 draw at Barnet where Wrexham had to come back from two
goals down. Prior to this Wrexham lost a tight game to Northampton after
another 2-2 draw at Mansfield, where this time Wrexham let slip a two goal
lead. |
