Form Guide

Wrexham: WWLDDLWW Blackpool: LDLWDLLD
Blackpool come into the game on the back of one victory in their last eight games, which has left the Seasiders close to the relegation zone in League 1 on 14 points. After defeating the MK Dons by the odd goal in five at home Blackpool picked up a credible draw at Nottingham Forest but then tasted successive defeats away to Swansea and at home to Colchester. On Saturday Blackpool picked up another point in a 2-2 draw at Barnsley but will be disappointed with the result after conceding two goals in the last nine minutes after being 2-0 up for the best part of the game.

Wrexham's problems lie away from the Racecourse this season after they recorded their fifth home win of the season in seven league games but on their travels they have only mustered three draws from the six games played. In their last four home games Cheltenham, Stockport and Torquay have been despatched with ease but in between these victories there has been comprehensive defeats at Lincoln and Wycombe along with draws at Orient and at home to Macclesfield.

Past Encounters

Andy HoltLast season Wrexham fell to two 2-1 defeats against Blackpool despite taking the lead in both games. Andy Holt put Wrexham ahead in the first half at a rain swept Bloomfield Road, but an early second half goal and a further penalty following a blatant handball by Dennis Lawrence resulted in Wrexham returning home pointless. In the return game on New Year's Day Chris Llewellyn had put Wrexham into the lead but another two goals in the second half from John Murphy resulted in Wrexham again being on the wrong end of a 2-1 score line.

The two clubs have only played each up on 32 occasions with Blackpool way ahead on victories with 19 in total and there have been 5 draws. Wrexham have recorded 4 wins over Blackpool, the first of which coming in 1997.

Team News

Wrexham Team News: Wrexham will be without defender Paul Linwood who has been recalled by Tranmere but he would have been cup tied anyway. Despite Dennis Lawrence being back after being rested following international duty there are problems for Denis Smith in defence as Andy Holt is doubtful with a hip injury and Paul Warhurst is expected to be ruled out after twisting his ankle. Wrexham remain without Shaun Pejic, Jim Whitley, Lee Roche and Matt Crowell for the first game in defence of the LDV Vans Trophy.

Mike Ingham continues in goal with Dennis Lawrence and Dave Bayliss two of the three starters in defence. Hopefully Andy Holt will recover to take the final place but Simon Spender or Mike Williams are other options in the squad. Denis Smith may take the opportunity to rest one of the midfield regulars of Danny Williams, Mark Jones and Darren Ferguson with Levi Mackin available in the squad. Alex Smith will continue on the left and so will Simon Spender on the right unless he is required in defence, then Dean Bennett will drop back from up front. Pick any two from Jon Walters, Lee McEvilly, Robbie Foy or Dean Bennett to start up front unless Bennett is required at right wingback.

Wrexham Squad (16): Ingham, Michael Jones, Lawrence, Bayliss, Holt, Mike Williams, Smith, Danny Williams, Mark Jones, Ferguson, Walters, Foy, Mackin, Bennett, Spender, McEvilly.

Blackpool Team News: Blackpool have on-loan duo Tommy Wright and Craig Armstrong available after Leicester and Sheffield United game permission for them to play. But Ciaran Donnelly, Rob Edwards and Gareth Evans are out with knee injuries and John Murphy has a bad back.

Officials: The match referee is Clive Oliver from Northumberland and he is assisted by Mark Astley and Eddie Evans with Jim Waring as the fourth official. Clive Oliver has refereed 10 games this season sending off 2 players and booking 25 at an average of 2.5 per game.
