The Silkmen |

Brian Horton |
After reaching the play offs last season Macclesfield
have made a stuttering start to the new campaign as they struggle to
revive last season's form with manager Brian Horton hitting out at his
defence after the Silkman crashed 4-1 at home to Northampton last
weekend."Our defending was pathetic today and
it has been the story of our season so far, Horton explained to the
Official Web Site.
"That said, we did not get the rub of the green with
the refereeing, their penalty was a poor decision and for their third
John Miles had been fouled in the build up.
"But even with that, you just cannot give away goals
like that. At times they could not cope with Bully and we played some
decent football."
The result compounded a bad week for Macclesfield after they were
charged by the The Football Association has for breach of four rules
regarding financial irregularities. Three of the charges relate to a
grant received from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund for the Estate
Road Stand, built between 2000 and 2002. The fourth charge concerns the
League Two club's accounting records.
After last season's top scorer Jon Parkin injured
medial ligaments during pre season Macclesfield new signing Martin
Bullock has taken over the scoring duties this season finding the net
six times times from midfield. Bullock joined the Silkmen following a
four year spell at Blackpool and has settled down quickly at his new
club although the loss of Parkin has been a big blow and is a reason for
their poor start to the season. |

Macclesfield have made an indifferent start to the season and
lie four places and three points off bottom placed Torquay after nine games
into the new campaign. The bright point so far has been the impressive 3-2
victory at Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup which earned the Silkman an
away tie at Cardiff City. Despite winning at Forest Macclesfield remain
without a point on their travels having lost all four games away from Moss
Rose in the league and their confidence was further knocked when they fell
to an embarrassing 4-1 defeat in front of their home fans to Northampton
last weekend. Macclesfield did have an early opportunity to get the
result out of their system but despite taking an early first half lead they
exited the Carling Cup to Championship side Cardiff following a 2-1 defeat.
After a spell of five games without a win, and four without
scoring, Wrexham finally found some form with back to back victories over
Barnet and Cheltenham at home but their away form is a problem with Wrexham
failing to win on their travels so far this season. The two home victories
were followed by a comprehensive 2-0 defeat at Lincoln and a 1-1 draw
at Leyton Orient. |

Team News |
Wrexham Team News: The
good news for Wrexham is that goalkeeper Michael Ingham has recovered from
the thigh strain that kept him out of last weekend's draw at Orient but at
the moment every piece of good news is accompanied with bad news as Darren
Ferguson is doubtful after picking up an ankle injury during training. If
Ferguson is ruled out then he will join Andy Holt, Shaun Pejic, Lee Roche,
Jim Whitley and Matt Crowell on the sidelines.
Michael Ingham will replace Michael Jones in goal and the
only change in the starting line up depends on the fitness of Darren
Ferguson. Paul Linwood, Dave Bayliss and Dennis Lawrence continue in defence
with Dean Bennett and Alex Smith at right and left wing back respectively.
Mark Jones and Danny Williams are definite starters in midfield with either
Paul Warhurst and Levi Mackin on standby to take the final midfield place if
Ferguson is ruled out. Robbie Foy and Jon Walters should continue up front
although Lee McEvilly will be knocking on the door for a place in the
starting eleven.
Wrexham Squad (18): Ingham, Linwood, Bayliss, Lawrence, Bennett, Danny
Williams, Ferguson, Mark Jones, Smith, Foy, McEvilly, Walters, Michael Jones, Levi Mackin,
Simon Spender, Mike Williams, Done, Reed.
Macclesfield Team News: Macclesfield hope Allan Russell will be fit
after he returned to training after a hip problem. Mark Bailey (calf) and
midfielder Neil MacKenzie (knee) are out but close to returns. Striker
Michael Symes (ankle) is a long-term absentee whilst Jon Parkin is still a
couple of weeks away from fitness and Michael Symes is back at Bradford
having his injury assessed.
Officials: The match referee is Premiership official Dermott
Gallagher from Oxfordshire and he is assisted by Steve Bratt and Chris
Sarginson with Jock Waugh as fourth official. Dermott Gallagher has refereed
eight games this season sending off two players and booking 21 at an
average of 2.63 per game.
