Wrexham v

Chester City

Sunday 26 March 2006

Kick Off @ 12:00

The Opposition

Mark WrightChester's demise down League 2 since Christmas with a return of 1 win in seventeen games costed Keith Curle his job after his coaching staff were previously sacked by the club. Mark Wright arrived back at Chester after previously leaving the club on the eve of their return back to league football but unless he can turn around the poor run of form, Chester will be heading back to the conference after two seasons in the Football League.

Mark Wright has been shifting out personnel to make room for new arrivals with striker Marcus Richardson the latest to leave in a loan move to Macclesfield this week. This departure was countered with the arrival of former Wrexham striker Jake Edwards who has joined until the end of the season from Exeter City of the Nationwide Conference.

Other departures have been goalkeeper Stephane Gillet who only arrived in January but he agreed a settlement on his contract after only making ten appearances since his arrival. His replacement is youngster Paul Harrison and the return of Chris McKenzie from injury.

Club captain Michael Branch was rumoured to have walked out on the club earlier on this month but the club have released a statement countering these rumours, stating that the situation had been resolved following clear the air talks.

Chester's top scorer is Ryan Lowe with 13 goals this season but has only found the back of the net once since the beginning of December and that was five games a go.

Past Encounters

Juan UgarteThe last match between the two sides was last year in the LDV Vans Trophy with striker Juan Ugarte scoring his first goal for Wrexham in the 1-0 win at Chester. The previous game prior to this a FA Cup match in 1997 with Wrexham again coming out on top in a 2-0 win at Chester. The last league encounters were in 1994/95 with both games ending in draws and Chester's last win against Wrexham is almost two decades a go in 1986.

The clubs have met on 78 occasions with Wrexham edging the head-to head with 32 victories against Chester's 27 and there have been 19 draws.

Form Guide

Wrexham: WDLDDLWD

Current Position: 9th from 37 agmes

Chester: LLLLLDLL

Current Position: 24th from 36 games

Chester come into the game on the back of a disastrous run of form and are without a win in their last eight games. The only bright spot has been a 1-1 home draw against fellow strugglers Torquay but a 5-0 hammering at Carlisle, followed up by defeats at home against Stockport and Orient, ended Keith Curle's spell in charge of Chester.

After going five games without victory, a win against Bury and a draw at Cheltenham have reignited Wrexham's play off ambitions. Prior to that, Wrexham tasted defeat at Macclesfield despite leading 2-0 and this came on the back of a goalless draw against Bury.
