Scunthorpe United

Second Round

v Wrexham

Saturday 02 December 2006

Kick Off @ 15:00

The Irons

Scunthorpe are currently riding high in second place of league one following their promotion in 2005 but do so without manager Brian Laws. Laws took charge of Wednesday last month after almost ten years at Glanford Park, although this was broken by a month out of the job during 2004, and since last month caretaker manager Nigel Adkins has continued the good work.

Robbie FoyScunthorpe are six points behind leaders Nottingham Forest but are a point ahead of third place Tranmere on 35 points after 19 games. Scunthorpe have only lost at home once this season with 5 wins and 3 draws from the 9 games played. The defeat at home to Brighton came on the back of a 4-0 win at leaders Forest and the Iron currently find themselves in third position of the league 1 home form table and top of the away form.

Top goal scorer for the Iron is Billy Sharp with sixteen goals already this season. Sharp played on loan for Rushden & Diamonds and has scored 37 leagues goals in 54 league games following his £100,000 move in 2005 from Sheffield United, who he joined as a trainee.

A familiar face playing for the Irons is striker Robbie Foy who joined the club in a free transfer move in the summer from Liverpool after spending half of last season at the Racecourse. Foy bagged 3 league goals in 17 games during his time at Wrexham and has only scored once for his new club this season, although his appearances have been restricted to six games so far.
