Stockport's win against Wrexham in midweek has left Wycombe in seventh
position with a return of 47 points from 30 games. Wycombe have always been
vying for one of the automatic promotion places but they have dropped
slightly off the pace in recent months - with only 3 wins in the last
14 - but they did reach the the semi final of the Carling Cup before being
knocked out by Premiership Champions Chelsea after the first leg ended 1-1.
Wycombe are ranked in 10th place overall in the away league
with six wins from their 15 games with another one ending in a draw but they
have tasted defeat 8 times so far on their travels in the league. They did
record a win in their last outing, a 1-0 win at Chester, but this was the
first win away from home in the league since Boston at the end of October.
Top
goal scorer for the Chairboys is Jermaine Easter with 20 goals so far this
season and he is supported by the experienced Tommy Mooney who has also
bagged 10. Easter joined Wycombe from Stockport 12 months ago and has so far
been averaging a goal every other game and his reward for his goal scoring
exploits this season has been a call up into the Welsh squad for the
friendly in Northern Ireland next week.
Wycombe have boosted their striking options after capturing
the signature of Scott McGleish for an undisclosed fee. The move came as a
surprise as McGleish was the Cobbler's top goal scoring with 13 goals this
season.
There have been three other arrivals during the transfer
window with manager Paul Lambert signing Leon Crooks (MK Dons), Simon
Johnson (Darlington) and Folawiyo Onibuje (Swindon). Heading out of Adams
Park is Kevin Betsy who has joined Bristol City in a £150,000 move and Jonny
Dixon has joined Aldershot for a nominal £6,000 fee.
Former Scottish international Paul Lambert took
charge of the Chairboys at the start of the season and there cannot be many managers in the lower
leagues with a Champions League winners medal to their name after the
former Celtic midfielder was part of the Borussia Dortmund team that
defeated Juventus in the 1997 final. |
