Wrexham v

Boston United

Saturday 06 May 2007

Kick Off @ 15:00

The Match

After 45 games, it virtually comes down to a winner takes all contest with Boston but we do have some sort of safety net if we lose the game, as Macclesfield would have to do the same at home to Notts County for us to stay up.

The Pilgrims

The Pilgrims have been in financial turmoil all season with players still yet to be paid their wages from March but to their credit, they have been able to take their survival chances to the final game of the season.

Boston agreed a CVA in principle with creditors that will see creditors of the club receiving 40p for every £1 they are owed but this agreement has been put on hold to the outcome of this game has been resolved.

Boston's financial problems has meant they have failed to field a full accomplishment of five substitutes in recent games as manager Steve Evans has had to rely on youth players to sometimes make up the starting eleven.

On the field, Boston's 1-1 draw at home to bottom placed Torquay has left the Pilgrims occupying the last relegation spot but courtesy of results elsewhere, they still have their destiny in their own hands courtesy of this fixture.

Boston have only won three games on their travels this season and this has the Pilgrims ranked 23rd overall, one ahead of all ready relegated Torquay United. The last victory away from Yorke Street came at Mansfield in mid March but you have to look back to last year for the other two victories, Macclesfield in November and Torquay a month later.

Team News

Wrexham Team News: Wrexham have Mark Jones back in contention after missing the last four games with a groin injury but the midfielder will most likely have to settle for a place on the bench as Brian Carey, who is without Robbie Garrett after his loan spell ended, is expected to name an unchanged side.

Boston Team News: Boston are without midfield quartet Stewart Talbot, Stephen Vaughan, Simon Rusk and Richie Ryan, plus defender Shane Nicholson. Paul Ellender, Colin Cryan and David Galbraith all face late fitness tests. Please take this team news with a pinch of salt!

Wrexham v Boston United

The only other game that all Wrexham fans will be looking out for this weekend is Macclesfield versus Notts County.

This game is only important if we lose to Boston, as a defeat for Macclesfield would keep us in League Two and send the Silkmen down to the Conference.

The Magpies now have nothing for play for but their last seven games have resulted in four wins, one draw and only two defeats, which leaves them placed 8th overall in the form table compared to the Silkmen who are in 17th and on a run of three straight defeats.

When you are there
Car Parking: NEWI College just before the ground and a local car park just before the Shell Garage on the opposite side of the road and both cost around £2.00. Free parking is available on the retail parks by turning left at the second roundabout but do not park in ALDI or you will get clamped! Avoid B&Q as they have a maximum stay of two hours and issue parking tickets for £125 and the new Central Retail park just passed the train station operates a time restriction policy.

Beer and Grub: The Turf is right next to the Kop but it gets very busy in the hour leading up to kick off, so arrive early. The Official Supporters Club has use of the Centenary Club on matchdays and this is located behind the Sainsburys Stand with the entrance off the club car park. The Plas Coch Retail Park has a pub and is normally a favourite for away supporters. The Railway is located down the side road along the Remploy factory at the opposite end of Crispin Lane to the ground. There are plenty of pubs in the town centre and the closet to the ground is a Wetherspoons Pub by following Mold Road into the town centre and is found on your left hand side. If you continue into the town centre McDonalds will be on your left and the next pub you reach is The Horse and Jockey and opposite that under the archway is a good chip shop. There are more pubs on High Street and to find them continue pass the Horse and Jockey, passing Burger King on your left, and High Street is the junction with Burtons.
