Derby County

Third Round

v Wrexham

Saturday 06 January 2006

Kick Off @ 15:00

The Rams

Derby's 2-1 win at promotion rivals Preston last weekend has left Derby in second position of the Championship with 50 points from 25 games and only three points behind leaders Birmingham.

Derby have the best away record in the Championship but they are only ranked tenth overall at home with seven wins from thirteen games. Their last defeat at home was against Wolves on Boxing day but this was Derby's first at home since they lost 1-0 to Birmingham in October.

The man in charge of the Rams is former Preston manager Billy Davies after he enjoyed a successful two year stint with the Lilywhites. Davies took control at Pride Park during the summer and Derby have shown a significant improvement in form this season after finish fifth bottom of the Championship last term.

Top goal scorer for Derby is summer signing Steve Howard with eleven goals in his first season with the Rams. Howard joined Derby from Luton in a £1 million transfer after scoring over 100 goals for the Hatters in five seasons.

Continue on this road until it merges with the A38 and then the first exit at the roundabout to continue on the A38 Kingsway. Leave the A38 at the third exit of the next roundabout onto the A52 and then left at the lights to continue on the A52. Now keep in left hand lanes to turn left onto the A601, then straight on at the lights and then take right hand lanes to bear right onto the A6. Take the second exit at the next roundabout to continue on the A6, then the first exit at the roundabout onto Derwent parade and then the third exit at the next roundabout onto Royal Way. Distance = 77 miles; Time = 2 hours.

When you are there
Car Parking: There is not much parking at the ground and the club recommends parking at the catalyst which is located off the A6 opposite the Navigation Pub. Another option recommended is the Cattle Market and this is located further down the A52 after the Pride Park turn off. To find it, continue on the A52 until you reach the pentagon roundabout where you turn left and then take another left. You are now travelling back on yourself and do so for another 300 yards until you reach the entrance. Cost is about £2 and is a 5-10 minute walk to the ground. Other alternatives are the unofficial car parks by the station and these will set you back £3 but prepare for a wait following the game. You can also park in the City Centre from where a shuttle bus operates to the ground.

Beer and Grub: The Crown and Cushion Pub located on London Road is recommended as away fan friendly by the official Derby web site. Near the station you will also find the Merry Widows, Brunswick or Alexander Hotels plus alcohol is served inside of the ground.

Cash Machines: Free one at the ground.

How much to get in?
