Notts County

v Wrexham

Saturday 18 November 2006

Kick Off @ 15:00

The Magpies

After going close to relegation last season, the Magpies find themselves in a lot healthier position this season in sixth place with 28 points from 17 games.

Despite their promising position, four of County's seven wins this season have come away from Meadow Lane and the Magpies have gone a without a win on home soil since the end of September, although they did knock out Championship side Southampton in the Carling Cup during October before losing to Wycombe this month.

The top goal scorer for County is the much travelled Jason Lee. The Magpies are his fourteenth club although he has scored a respectable 5 goals from 14 league games since joining the club in the summer.

Steve Thompson has been in charge of the Magpies since the summer after replacing Gudjon Thordason in the hot seat after his time in charge was cut short after only one season following County's struggles last season. Thompson's last managerial position was at Cambridge but his time at the Abbey Stadium ended after the U's were relegated out of the Football League at the end of the 2004/05 season.

Last season it was County who faired better over Wrexham with a win and a draw to their credit. The win came in controversial fashion in Wrexham's away opening game of last season when a last minute goal secured the three points for the home team.

County looked on course to take all three points in the return game at the Racecourse when they opened the scoring in the 84th minute but it was Wrexham who struck a last minute goal when Robbie Foy pounced to earn a point.

Wrexham's last win was en route to the LDV triumph with a 3-2 win in the first round at Meadow Lane in September 2004 with Hector Sam scoring the winner with three minutes left.

The head-to-head is equal in the league with 15 wins each and there have been 14 draws from the 44 league games between the sides.

County's only win in their last five league games came at Grimsby at the beginning of October courtesy of a 2-0 scoreline. This came on the back of a draw at Mansfield and a home defeat to Bristol Rovers and this was followed up with another home defeat when Bury left Meadow Lane with all three points. In their last league game the Magpies came away from Boston with a point following a 3-3 draw although it should have been three after they led the game 3-1 with  15 minutes left.

Wrexham are unbeaten in their last two home league games with no goals conceded courtesy of a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers and a goalless draw against Macclesfield. Prior to this, Wrexham lost at home to MK Dons and away to Mansfield and the mini improvement in form was ended with a 1-0 defeat at Bury.

Team News

Wrexham Team News: Chris Llewellyn is back in the starting line up after serving a three game ban and he could replace Matty Done on the left after the winger was ruled out with a ankle injury. Notts County Team News: The Magpies have no new injury or suspension worries and include recent loan signings, Jay Smith and Daryl McMahon, in the squad after they joined from Southend and Leyton Orient respectively. Also recommended is the Globe on London Road just across from the hump back bridge over the canal plus it also serves food. On the other side of Trent Bridge is the Southbank that also serves real ale as well as serving excellent food and having numerous TV screens. If travelling by train then just across from the front of the station is the Vat and Fiddle. Closer to the ground further down Meadow Lane is the Magpies Pub. Named after the club its has real ale and decent grub at decent prices and also has parking spaces if you get there early.
